Default fan hitting radiator hose

At the track yesterday I had an interesting spin due to a hose letting go. Upon inspection I found that the top radiator hose, which was fairly new had a groove worn in it that finally broke through. When we did a quick repair by cleaning and adding racers tape, I incurred a second failure due to the same problem. Hindsight says I should have added a zip tie to pull it away.

Any ideas on why this could happen. Badly formed hose? I can't imagine that the fan could be out of position.

Check you upper radaitor mount. This could allow the radiator and fan to move closer to the engine then it should.

As for the hose. I had this happen to me before also. I used a zip tie around the coolant hard pipe to hold it closer to the radiator. The hose failled on me in the middle of a road trip last year, I limped the car to a carquest. After searching their back room I found a nice replacement hose that fit perfectly...well I did have to cut a small section off but after that it fit better then the stock hose.

If your in a bind and need to replace this hose quickly, use carquest part # RBR 21723 and cut one bend off for a perfect fit. Most should have it in stock or be able to get it on a saturday afternoon.

Stephen, I will need your help to get the car prepared for my next event and even repair/replace this hose. As you may remember I do Hurricane/disaster work and will be on the road quite a bit, leaving Wednesday. I need to get the car ready for Mosport, September 20.

Happened to me during a race weekend, lost multiple hoses. Found out that generic hoses are not the same as OEM hoses. The OEM ones have extra bends and better clearance.

Root cause was blown /destroyed engine mounts, ie engine moving, not the radiator/fan. They were the low cost aftermarket ones, solid filled not hydraulic, never again. Changed to Lindsey Supermounts, so far no issues.
