Default NOT the DME! Headlight, fuse issue... read new thread.

I was at the DME, spliced into a solid thick green wire to get a reading on the voltage... car won't start. It cranks, just won't fire up.

I diden't even cut the wire or go past the outside shield wire... hmmmm

My question: Does that outside wire have to be there?

When i get her fired up and a new TPS installed... It is for sale for anything I can get.

Did you try to remove harness connector from the DME and then reconnect to make sure it has good connection?

What gauge?

And after all the work that you have been doing, can I suggest that you get that car running and just drive it for a while? You will remember why it is such a pleasure to own a 951 and will likely reconsider selling.

It was getting dark, so I didn't have alot of time to try and fix it.

The wire you spliced into the DME is it connected to anything?? If so disconnect it, it may be your problem.

This wire has two layers:

No, I just spliced it to get a reading for volts. never connected anything to it.

I crank the key and she won't fire up all of a sudden.. Bizzarre. I hear a "click" from the DME when I turn the key.

I appreciate all the help, lets get this last project finished.. then off to ebay, craigslist, and the autotrader.

If it is a braid shield then yes...if it is foil shield then no. Braid shields are used as a ground point at each end of whatever they are connecting to. Foil shields are simply an attempt to insulate a signal cable from magnetic interference (induced, electro or otherwise). MI can cause signal interruption, "grey noise" or bad signal/information reads.

Let's make sure I have a CLEAR picture....at the point you shaved the wire to test it did you completely sever the braid?

I did not completley sever the braid. I scraped it on one side with a razor blade, exposing just enough wire to get a volt read.

I know which one this is as I've cut this before, You need to wire it back together in the same fashion it was.

Did you experience a no-start issue aswell?

I tried taping the small scrape, but she wouldent fire up.

I will try to sort everything out in the morning, I'll post some pictures, and a video of whats going on. Thank you, and please check back!

I experience a no start because my DME relay chose to die at the same time. I think what I ended up doing was pulling the wires apart even more so there was enough slack to install butt connectors or solder in a new run of wiring.

Might be worth it to clean the contacts or just replace your dme relay btw.
