Default is your hood hot?

I've noticed my hood is hot to touch near where the header sits under it. What is normal? should it be warm? because when I put my hand on it I can't keep it there for more than a few seconds.

This is after a brisk drive for say 30 minutes. Should I be worried?

Headers get hot, as long as nothings going wrong I wouldn't worry about it. I've never felt my hood after I drive tho.

Mine was pretty hot too. I never noticed it before and was surprised how hot it was.

Yes absolutely it gets really hot near the headers. I added insulation and have a lot of trouble getting the glue to hold in that area because of the heat.

If I drive my car out at night and leave the hood closed when I get home in garage, the next morning, the intake manifold will still be just a little warmer than the air, but If I open the hood and let it sit overnight, it will be cool by morning..... weird!

I vented my fiberglass hood to get rid of the heat. When you park you can feel the hot air rush out for a few minutes. The hood itself has little heat.

I installed a cold air intake simultaneously and increased the flow through fender. I wanted to ensure that the MAF system was only getting cold air.

I realized I had a problem prior to the cold air intake. I had NACA ducks on the headlights. When they were down and the ducts flowing, the mixture was perfect. Once the lights were up, the mixture would get rich. Upgrading the MAF temperature sensor helped some but the problem was not completely solved until I removed the NACA ducts, added the cold air intake and vented the hood.

A hood scoop can help to flow more air to that area

My scoop is reverse facing and takes advantage of a low pressure area. Another goal was to increase air flow through the intercooler. The nose panel is also vented.

How does it react to a rainstorm? I like the look and idea of the hood vents a lot, but I worry about rain flushing into the engine bay when parked, etc. Wadayathink?

very little, if any water, will get into the engine bay with that set up. It will suck out a hell of a lot of heat though.

I'll say this much, ceramic coating the turbine housing and headers can do an unbelievable difference in under hood temps.

My old 951 used to feel like the gates of hell when I popped the hood. Definitely a bit uncomfortable to stand in front of to say the least.
