Unhappy Carnage inside

I thought I had broken my timing belt the other day but I opened up the belt cover and things are so much worse than that. It looks like the bearing cage in the tensioner pulley broke and the gear came off the spindle. I had already taken off the intake and nothing was obviously damaged but I think I still need to take off the head to make sure.

Definitely take off the head. I hope it's not bad!

You could always get lucky like I did with my old garnet 951 and strip the timing belt without bending a valve, I am still amazed to this day.

I got the belts changed when I had the headgasket done so it was about time to get them changed anyway. I did not have the shop change the pulleys so I guess I was on borrowed time with them. When I opened the upper plastic cover the pulley was jammed between the t-belt and the lower belt cover. When the engine stopped it did not make any mechanical sounds so I was surprised to see what I saw. The belt has damage but is did not break just stripped some teeth off the bottom, circled in green.

Something that does worry me, though, is the big balance belt drive gear on the crank has a small dent on the inside of every one of the teeth. It looks like they have been there a while but it could be from grinding against one of the bearings trapped in the bottom of the lower cover.

It looks like the upper run of the belt is also missing teeth, right above the chrome guard rail. Maybe I'm wrong!

I hope the head is OK!
