See my DME Repair thread for a detailed write-up with pictures.

Hope this helps!
Thank you!
I will have a look at this.
When I tried to reach the DME I found the screws holding the mounting frame to the DME damaged. Some previous owner has damaged both screws and threads...so more work to come...
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Problem solved!

The ignition lead between igintion coil and distributor cap was the culprit.
The cable had very one very corroded end which I cleaned and reconnected.

Engine lives again!

Thank you all for helping with your advice.

Exactly how much of a PIA was the harness replacement Ian?? I'm thinking about it, but every time I survey the area I get chills and become thirsty for a Scotch; which makes me forget what I was doing... If "not too bad" then where did you get a good harness?? lemeno, huh?

Congrats! I managed to fix my car too. It was the KLR box. Luckily I bought a spare DME AND a spare KLR. I affixed the DME but the damn engine still died. I whispered a prayer and plugged the KLR and ho and behold... Nearly a day later, my blue-eyed boy is still behaving.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 2 year on, I hope he's finally well.

Hey, what are the symptoms of a bad KLR and should I transfer the Lindsey Racing KLR chip over? What does it do? More aggressive timing? The KLR box current runs the stock chip.

Sprint.

Nice to hear your up running for sure!
I would advice you to create a new thead for your questions. Since this thread been around for a while relating to an erratic run, I would assume most Rennlist folks are relating to this thread in a different manner then you would benefit from.
Give it a shot wth a new thread!
Good luck ... I cant help you one this one.
