Default I think i'm going to be sick

I just added up all my 951 parts recipts and came to a few dollars under 6500 Thats not including the price of the car, and it still needs paint. I'm in shock. It runs really good but damn, I think I'm just going to enjoy the car for a while now. Somebody tell me i'm not the only one

Ummmmmm.... you're not alone. - by a longshot.

But for those that are not used to lying cheating and stealing to support their "Crack pipe of speed" habit.

It really is alot of money.

Good thing I live in a cardboard box and have no bills.

I have about 2.5X that in five years. Currently the body work is going to cost the purchase price and it still will need a turbo and clutch. At this point the car is more of a sentimental object to me. This summer has been my roughest yet and I'm sure it wouldn't have been as bad if my 951 had been fine. The car is a form of stress relief to me and none of my other cars feel the same

I am right there with you - probably close to $5,000 excluding wheels, tires and cash contributions from eBay... as I dropped it off this morning at the mechanic to do the belts and diagnose a running hot problem that I have given up on... It is a hobby, just like boating, horses or a cottage...or so I keep telling myself.

Just wait until the 2.8L or 3.0L bug bites, that one hurts. I've got that much sitting in the garage and I agree, never add receipts, just feed the cause and let the wife shop; it's all ok.

I made this mistake as well over the weekend. I'm at 6K plus over the last 12 months (mods and maintenance). Not too bad though. Over the 7+ years I've owned the car: I'm at 15K for parts and labor. Not bad for 100,000 miles over that span.

You have to put it into perspective. Want a car like your 951, fast and handles like a dream or do you want a rice burner that gets you from point A to point B putting you to sleep while you drive it?
We are talking about fun and enjoying the results. It all comes at a cost, no matter what you drive.

How much would you spend up front and/or dump into another car to get the same results?

That's nothing. I have only driven my car 3 times, owned it for a year. I have at least that much money in parts sitting in boxes upstairs right now. I am still taking things OFF of my car to get it ready for a paint job as well. Except I'm changing colors and doing it right, including all sills and engine bay, with the glass out.

Then I get to do the real build in earnest. I bet I'll top 20K on a $4000 car with no problems. But hey, I could have blown 20K on drugs in two years and have nothing to show for it! By the time it is done it will have easily topped 2 years.

4000$ to buy the car, ~12000$ in fixing it. Your not alone.
