What would a new 944 turbo design look like if Listers put their ideas together (and last long enough to get 1 design). Could they make a car soo nice, not even Lart would part and sell? What kind of features would you expect. A lot of car manufacturers are putting out new designs based on old models and I'm wondering what Rennlisters would come up with for a 944 turbo. Maybe we could all get shares in the Rennlist car company and fund it or submit a design ideas to germany...............

Don't do anything, except start building them again with the newest technologies to make them as reliable as possible. The look is timeless. Even today, there are few cars are aesthetically pleasing and that handle as well.

I think it would look something like a modern 968 (I'm looking for the picture someone on the 968 boards made)

Not a huge fan of the front valance. Maybe something closer to the GT3RSR.
And I have an affinity for removing hot engine bay heat from a turbo charged space...it WILL be a turbo, won't it?

You folks read the recent European Car article about the 911 compared to the Audi R8? The rear engine cars are awesome automobiles, but you can't overcome weight bias forever. I've owned rear engine Porsche cars. Love them, but our cars handle better with less engineering. I know I'm stating the ovbious, but had to state my personal feeling and personal knowledge. This is not obvious to many, and don't want to go there. We all like what we like. Trust me, I usually like a car guys perspective. I always appreciate someone that loves their car, especially when it shows appropriately.

The new R8 is a mid engine AWD 4.2 V8 with a measley 414hp and 317tq at the flywheel. These R8 cars are considered the 911 beater. Audi knows how to turbo a car, and what is coming out will be engineering perfection, as far as road cars go. This new R8 is an amazing piece, and has much to come. Trust me, you will see some of the best tuners turning these cars into icons prior to mass produced versions.

Mid engine cars have no room for my bags for trips, therefore I'm biased in other means of creating equal weight distribution to allow for room for human needs while motoring somewhere else with a passenger and her stuff.

Our cars have similar weight distribution from axle to axle weighting as the R8. With similar suspension engineering, new car smell, body design, ergonomics, and updated lighting, our cars would fare quite well in today's marketplace with a different powerplant. I like the surprise factor of a 3.0 four banger, but most folks don't. The bragging rights are for a very few like minded folks that enjoy making power from a small displacement engine with few cylinders. I've always stated, " 500whp from a 8.3 Viper with mods isn't very exciting."

Imagine a 50/50 weight distribution axle car with a 4 liter V8 turbo motor with the platform of the 951/968 with unlimited build money to create a mass produced AWD platform for the massess and 2rwd cars for folks that like what we like.

The 968TS cars were faster than the 911 Turbo cars in the 90's with just 3 liter 4 banger motors. These cars just handle better. It's all math and physics.

Some of us have scratched the surface of the capability and beauty in engineering of the 944/968 platform. The Vette is as close in design to our cars as anything available. Imagine a vette type car designed by Porsche, that our cars folks.

We'll see something from Porsche that resembles our cars, and hopefully Porsche will sell many to alow the engineering/design folks with plenty of money to keep on doing their work.

Modifying my favorite Porsche without help from the scriviner is costly, but I like what I like.

George

That car with a 3.0 twin cam variable lift and timing on intake and exhaust cam and variable intake runner length etc and a nice Garrett GT turbo in that car above would be awesome. Just modern technology and you are away... maybe a 4WD option hmmmmm

Mmm, The R8 is a wonderful car but I don't think it is a 911 beater. It is roughly eqivalent to the 911. In some road tests the 911 won, in other tests the R8 won, but in both cases it was by a slim margin. Also the 911's they put up against the R8 are often not what i'd consider to be the 911 closest equivalent - i.e. the 997C4S with the X51 pack (which is still around 20bhp down on the R8 and around £20k cheaper by the time you get it on the road). I reckon in this form the 911 would be slightly ahead. And of course since then the new facelift 997 has been released with direct injection, significant suspension revisions and the PDK 7 speed double clutch gearbox, which has given the new 997's near GT3 performance, so by this measure the new facelift 997 has now leapfrogged the R8. The R8 already has direct injection and a PDK-style gearbox so the only way it can get more performance is by increasing the engine size which takes it further away from being a direct 997 competitor and more into Lambo/Ferrari/997 turbo territory both in terms of price and performance.

Apparently there will be an R10, which will have a 10cyl engine which will be more of a Lambo Gallardo/F430 equivalent. There is even talk of an R12 that will be a v12 Diesel!!

They've been saying the end of the rear engine configuration for the 911 has reached the end of its development. But Porsche still manage to take it a step further. The new 997 is not just a small step further, it appears to be a significant step on from the previous 997 from what i've read.

Anyway, back to the original question - I think a 2-door Panamera turbo will be just about a modern 944 equivalent if they were to ever build it. A nice v-6 twin turbo engine would be nice.

The most appealing car to me in recent years was the Maserati Coupe, it sort of gave me 944 feelings.

Coupe or Spyder (cab) 4.2L V8 6-Speed sequential transmission, na only.
