I'm no rebuild expert, as this is my first, but I don't think this will buff (hone) right out. Both pics are of cylinder 2. Forget catching a fingernail, I could feel these with those loose blue latex gloves on.

So I just wanted to confirm that this can't be just honed, it needs to be bored. And will 100.5mm be enough? Or is that something my machinist will have to tell me?
And just to give you an idea of maybe why this happened, here's a clue of what brand of moron the previous owner was:

That is one creative woodruff key. Looks like the end of the crank is damaged there because of it. Where they wedge in further before the picture--how did the crank bolt tighten like that?
As for the cylinders, you only remove .25mm for 100.5 pistons, so it might be close for that block. Given the condition of the crank and bores, it might be cheaper to start with a good replacement short block....

That's the camshaft not the crankshaft. So it's not an epic fail, especially as I have a spare NA camshaft which should work.
Does anyone make 101mm pistons?

Doh...of course... Still, nice move by the P.O. As for 101 pistons, see this thread:

The US chrome/nikasil route might be an idea too -- so you aren't limited to Alusil-friendly pistons.

Yeah, the PO was really something. There's a lot more I found on/in this engine that made me laugh...
I'm already reaching my budget for this rebuild so I want to leave sleeving out of the equation. I'm weighing boring vs. buying a nice NA block.
