Default Do I really have to buy 80/100W bulbs online?

I have E code housings and I am going to put in some 80/100W bulbs and build a harness. I have looked at every napa, autozone, etc. locally and many of them dont even carry any H4 bulbs much less the 80/100W bulb. Is rennbay really the only place to snag a set?

E-Code & H4 are illegal in the USA, you can sell them but you have to specify that they are for off-road use only. Also, the maximum bulb wattage that you can legaly fit in the USA is 70w low beam 72w high beam. That is why the regular parts stores won't sell 80w+ bulbs.

Try and search for a racing or rally shop, they might have them.

Daniel Stern lighting also. He and Travis at Rennbay are two good sources in this post-Iceshark world.

Also, Robby has a "Remaining Iceshark Inventory" thread. He may have what you want.

Try searching local race equipment shops. Thats where I always bought 100-130w bulbs when I needed them.

you ever try to drive at night with some jackass laying 100W l+ ights on you.

there is good reason they are not legal for dot use.

When I was running 100w bulbs in my foglights, people kept flashing their hi-beam at me. I got the message and now run 55w.

I thought that with the E code lenses, the light was cut off at a certain height rather than allowing it to fade out, therefore it wont reach the drivers mirrors no matter how bright the bulb is.

This might be a little off topic, but will the stock wiring handle 100w bulbs, or would you need to get the rewire kit to run them?

I'd like to run the e-code lights in my 85 944, but what wattage could I go with, being stock?

Those in the know will say the stock wiring is barely adequate for the stock lights. In stock configuration the full current of the headlights passes through the 20+ y/o wiring in the dash and the light switch. Put in relays and a harness, especially if you are going to higher wattage.
