I have had a long ongoing problem with this rattle coming down from the engine ( The heat shield metal plate) thru the pipe and has rattled the cat converter and made it into a noise maker.

So I took it to my nearby Porsche shop ( Geman auto) and finally got the Clutch completely replaced it was long overdue and my Mechanic told me replacing the clutch would get rid of the vibration.

I picked up the car and during a long drive down hwy one the vibration was becoming huge and the muffler started to vibrate and chatter and then rattle as I pushed into 1st and then 2nd.

So here I sit frustrated and wondering if my long time mechanic has taken me for a ride or is this a normal problem. So I ask if this is normal if there is a easier fix at this point 3 thousand for a clutch job and 2 mufflers later I have reached my wits end. Please help!!

Your mechanic my have mistaken what you were saying for either clutch catter (not likely) or he figured a heat shield that was removed and reinstalled during the clutch job was the one rattleing.

Is this causing a physical shaking of the car or is it mosly noise (buzz)?

Has it since changing to 3" exhaust?

The problem starts at the heat shield and works back to the tailpipe he said the vibration was in the clutch but now the whole exhaust is rattling uncontrollably.

If this is the case should the shielding be removed and re fitted to the engine area?

For me it was the test pipe rattling against the control arm
