Default Everyone Carry a Fire Extinguisher

I thought I would never need it but I've always keept one behind my drivers seat. Yesterday, I was driving down the road and the car just shut off, I was slowing down to pull into a driveway when I started to smell and see smoking coming through the dash. I stopped pulled the hood release and grabbed the extinguisher, opened the hood and put out the fire. Next time I'll have a bigger extinguisher, the little one I had was just barley enough.

A little paint damage on the hood, some crusty looking wiring, and a lot of smoke damage. The cause of the fire? Fuel lines, and I even replaced the factory lines with some lines from a reputable company. I won't post whose lines untill after I see what they say about what happened with them. I will say they came apart at the crimp at the fuel dampner. No indication that anything was wrong untill it happened.

Anyway does anyone have a 88' Turbo engine harness, fuel lines, starter harnes, TPS and anyother random plastic crap under the hood for sale?

Kyle, I don't have a TPS (unless by some freak chance it is the same part as an NA), but I do have an AFM for a turbo if that was damaged.

I have starter wiring and I think a turbo TPS is different from the n/a (more pins , variable resistance irrc?)

Kyle, sorry to hear about that, but it's good to hear you caught it in time. I carry a 5lb. bottle which sometimes seems like overkill and probably is, but when you need it, you really need it. I still have my Rennbay lines that I removed to install my LR lines. Probably have a couple thousand miles on them. They're yours for the price of shipping if your interested.

Yeah the AFM is a little crispy, I have yet to dig into it too far. I am just so irritated I haven't even started to look at it. Ryan and Shane I'll probably be talking to you soon about some parts, Ben you have a PM about the fuel lines. Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted about the progress.

You MUST carry a fire extinguisher on any 944, ESPECIALLY a road car that is not frequently inspected.
There are several things which can cause a fire at this age on these cars.

I got mine at NAPA but, I'm sure other parts stores, hardwares, Lowes and such places have them. Next one I buy will be bigger than the one I had, it was barely enough. Plus make sure it is ABC, that way it covers all three types of fire you might encounter in your automobile.

Kyle, I juyst heard about your incident from Vic not 5 mins ago. First off, i was so greatful to hear that you were okay, and thanked the porsche gods that you had your extinguisher with you... The first thing that came to my mind were those fuel lines that a certain friend of ours HATES! just for that very reason of not being able to tell when they are getting worn/defective....

You can count on us to be by your side (or just a phone call away) to help rebuild your beauty back to Tom-Tom winning condition.
