Yes, i have weighed mine, and it is. However, this should be offset with the kokeln rear beam i'm fitting, which saves 11/12kgs i believe. So all in all, i should be 3-4 kgs heavier. not a great worry, considering the benefits

I thought it was I war also told I would need a small 5" square adapter plate to make it up to the steel part of the torque tube .
By the way I love the floor pan plan are you using the original one with tabs Or made a new one ???
you spoke of More pics are they available yet .
And that 924 looks awesome as well tell us about the roof
its just 4mm tinted polycab srewed on top with sealer??
I'm about to go a similar way myself and would like some tips .

I plan to fit a water spray onto the new build. The car is primarily used for Hillclims/sprints here in the UK, so the runs are vet short. I did some testing at the track with a camcorder and strips of wool. I placed the wool around the duct, and found that the deflector needs to come around the sides, as i was seeing air spilling back into the duct. The IC is fully shrouded in the front, so the air is pulled right through. Also, the duct is placed right at the point of lowest air pressure on the bonnet, which aids the through flow. In my opinion, size of the intercooler is secondary to it working well. This really seems to work very well.
However, on the new build, i shall be fitting a K probe to the IC outlet/inlet, so i can graph the IC temps a lot quicker and more accurately.
Concerning the gearbox, i currently run a 944 box, not 951. Everything is OK, except 5th gear. There sems to be a huge gap between 4th and 5th. So my options were to have a new 5th gear cut, or fit a '68 box, as this has very evenly spaced ratios. Aalso, as i run 21" tyres, the gearing is very short, so on some tracks, such as Goodwood i might actually need the 6th gear. Last year i was pulling out of the last corner in 3rd, and maxing out at about 120 as it would not pull the tall 5th gear.
FWIW, here is a little video of her in action lastyear. Only running 250BHP here, but still pretty nippy!! As you can see from the 2 pics, she'll happily light the rears up in 2nd. And these are super sticky Avon slicks

Nice one Steve. Looks a great fun car. What are the details of your engine...that you can tell us?
Hillclimbs are fun, but can be pretty dangerous. There was a guy that flipped an open wheeler in the last event we went in. Not a good ending...

Ok,

car specs are as follows-
2 ltr block

Arrow Forged Rods
Pace Dry sump pump
Custom Oil pan for dry sump system
Big valves
Aggressive cam
Franco cam gear
Jenvey Taper Throttle bodies
8 injectors
Custom 4 branch ex manifold
Modified 944 Intercooler, vented through bonnet
Pectel SQ6 ECU
Full Anti lag
Traction control
launch control
ADD Engineering 16 way IPU
Motec SDL
Choice of turbo's for events. 280bhp or 370 bhp
JRZ suspension Coilover in rear
late 94 Ali trailing arms and hubs
Kokeln rear beam
Fully rosejointed/solid bush suspension
Electric Power steering
2.6:1 quick rack
Tilton bias peddle box
Wilwood front calipers
Fully adjustable roll bars front/rear
968 gearbox + Guard transmission 50/80 LSD
Fully fibreglass front and doors

Most of the above is in and working in the current shell. However, i am in the process of building a GTR replica fully seam welded/caged shell, into which i will transplant everything.
Here's a couple of pics of the head when i was building it up.

4 branch manifold

manifold again

jenvey ITB's with custom flanges and 8 injectors

I/C and custom exhaust fitment. Old block used for measuring only

VERY NICE SETUP Steve. You've spent a lot of time and money on all those goodies and I bet she HOWLS!!

What's the late 94 ali trailing arms and hubs about?
With the turbo location where does the exhaust exit? Got any pics showing more details of the engine installed?

FWIW a 968 crossmember did not fit in a friend's car ('91 951) when we installed a 968 gearbox - it hit the fuel tank. The 944 crossmember is "flatter" and worked fine.

Patrick, '94 trailing arms are slightly different in how wheel bearings are held into them (see illustrations in PET).

Patrick,

The 944 ali arms and hubs give a greater offset than the original OEM units.
The exhaust runs down the left hand side and exits the side of the car behind the door.
All the wires/pipes you see in the pics are very temorary, just to get her up and running.

Thom, fuel tank is not an issue, as i run a custom tank. I'm wondering if i can machine an adaptor to allow the 988 box to hang from the original location. The early cars have a bar running between the chassis rails, which is welded to the rails, not bolted like the later 944's or 968.
i am thinking of cutting the rear floor away and making a removable panel. This would make fitment a lot easier. I will then fabricate a tank to sit along side the gearbox.

Thanks Steve, that's some setup! I had not heard the term 'ali' before. Aluminium yes? What offset are they if you remember?

Yes, Ali being shorthand for Aluminium. Not sure of the offsets, as i run a CGT bodt and wheel spacers. The other reason is for the wheel speed sensor positions/ABS sensors, which i use as traction control sensors.
However, things are under way with the new shell, which will incorporate all i've learnt building this and hopefully none of the mistakes!!

Default Maybe a 951 gear box?

Since you are at about the same HP as a stock 951 or more, how about a 951 gear box? Judging by the complaint about the big gap between 4th and 5th I assume you have a pre '88 944 gear box.

Lou
