Completely Baffled By Tire Sizes

If you want inexpensive, I recently bought 4 Sumitomo tires shipped to my door from tirerack for $292.00. For the price they are much better then I would have expected. 225/50/16 and 245/45/16, they are about $62.00/per tire. Heck these tires are cheap enough that they are worth buying simply for having something for someone's car to sit on while in winter storage so you don't flat spot expensives ones.

Good luck with the Sumitomos. I had them and they turned brick hard within a year and started to dry rot within 2. I loved them when they were new, but hated them after they aged. That was a couple of years ago - hopefully they've improved.
FWIW, they own Dunlop Holding and have an alliance with Goodyear. They don't actually manufacture their own tires.

I priced the Hankooks RS-2s at www.TireRack.com. They were going to end up being a total of $489 out the door. Then the cheapest I could get my old tires off and new tires on was from Tires Plus for $120. Put 'em together and it was $610.
I called Butler Tire. They had some Toyo T1Rs. When they realized I was competitively shopping, they said they could get me to walk out the door for $720.
I went to Kaufman Tire. They offered the Continental Sport Contact for $691.
Told the guy at Butler Tire about the Kauffman Tire deal. He said that they could only offer that deal because the Sport Contacts were being discontinued. Rob Kidd, District Manager of Kauffman Tire called Continental to confirm that they were not discontinued, but regardless, he'd sell me the Toyo T1Rs for the same price.
So I'm getting 4 Toyo T1Rs for $691, or about $80 more than Hankooks. Assuming that the T1Rs really are better tires, it seems to be $80 well spent.
Of course, I might have been able to get the Hankooks for less than the $489 walk out the door price.
Thanks for your help. I definitely learned a lot, and I was a very well educated consumer which helped in my negotiating.

The Hankooks beat the crapp out of the Continentals in Tirerack and the reviews were superior as well...

Read the reviews, they aren't that bad of a tire. The Khumos I had 2 years ago had serious tracking problems and the rears were at the wear marks after 2 months. The P6's I had last year had awfull traction and I had one blowout.
I don't care if they rot, make noise, or wear fast. They won't last long enough for it to matter. I care that they last one event, have excellent grip, and don't fold on hard cornering. This they accomplished.
If I wanted to spend the extra cash I could have bought tires that were $160 a piece, or I could just tape a $100 bill to each one of the Sumis I bought...
...I feel better with $400 in my pocket rather then burning in a cloud of smoke on the tarmac.
I had planned to change them for a better tire after but I kinda like these, 90% as good for 40% the price.

Anyone have any experience with the General Exclaim UHP? They rank #1 in their category and the pricing is fantastic. Am actively contemplating them (and Kumho Ecstas) to replace my Michelin Pilot Sports that have to be the loudest tires I have ever had on any car, but quite sticky.
