Lifter Questions
To all you Motorheads,
I have a '87 2.8L stroker and I have just had to replace all of my hydraulic lifters. 4 were collapsed, 2 were weak, which left 2 that were in fairly decent condition. After the replacement when I start the engine, it runs very smoothly but after it starts to warm up it starts to sound like a diesel. I am running Valvoline VR 20-50 at between 3 and 4 bar. Is there something obvious that I have over looked during the replacement. I really don't want to go through the time and expense of doing this again.
Thanks
Bob

Is the head 100% stock?

Odd that they get worse after warm up rather than better?

I am not sure what type of oil restrictor you have in that head, but make sure that it is aligned and oriented properly. I would pull the head again, remove the restrictor, and check it.

The lifters were replaced by Protechnik. I will tell Sam that you have such high respect for his work. I was curious as to what the pressure relief valve in the cam tower actually relieves.

It does seem unusual that they would get worse with warming up, thermal expansion of all parts and with the lifters pumping up.
Did Sam do the head refresh - ie how old are the valve springs, shims under the springs, but again, sorta of wierd getting worse when it heats up. Oil pressure is good on warm up, so no indication of the OPRV screwing up?

the little hole on the side, hit it with some air ( little rubber air blow gun) and if the button stays hard - you can't push it in, use it. Button can be pushed in several times, toss it; worked for me so far.

He ripped you.
Ask for yours back and I shall prove it if you like. (serious offer)
