944 S2
hey guys...how does the last year of the 944 S2 drive? prettty good? How does it compare to the turbos? how much do you think they are worth?
Thanks
Thanks

No, but it is still a fun car, particularly if it has the 030 package. I always said to myself that the S2 would be a really fun car if you added a turbo to that engine.
I sold it and bought a 2.5 turbo. Now I'm doing what I always wanted to do to the S2, and putting a 3 liter turbo in it.

If I had it to do over again, I would think about buying an S2, and eventually supercharging it. The last year of the S2 comes with the 968 wing from the factory, which is kinda cool.

Olli, thanks for splitting hairs
I don't think the US got the 91 S2, but I'm not 100% positive. If so, then only one year of the "s2 wing" here. I'm open for correction from those more in the know.
Also... I'm not sure its clear in the above posts, but the suspension and brakes are exactly the same as the turbo car. So the S2 should out handle and brake all the NA's, and with the lower final drive, It sould do a good job of hanging with a 100% stock turbo. There is a local guy who runs stock class PCA in a 951, and he has some trouble keeping up with the S2's on the track. My personal hypothesis is that the final drive is a big part of this, but also ... I'm sure that lag out of the corners has something to do with it.

So I guess a S2 is definitely a good specimen even with 208 hp? What is the torque on this? Also, would it be very difficult to convert the S2 to a Turbo? Presumably, if the S2 has the same suspension and brakes...what would an S2 be missing to make it a turbo spec car? I'm assuming the turbo is pretty much the only significant piece of the puzzle? I think I am wrong...can someone correct me pls?
Thanks,
Jim

Don't buy the S2 if you aren't going to be satisfied with 208hp and around 200lb torque. It is very expensive to modify in comparison to the turbo. For about $1200 you can usually get a turbo to 300 hp at the crank and for another 2500 or less you could have 300 at the wheels. On an S2 you would probably be looking at close to 10k to get 300 to the wheels. Rough number but that gives you something to go by.
Personally I've had a couple S2s and turbos. Currently I am driving a turbo - lots faster but certainly more maintenance and when you get on the modification train it only gets worse.

Stock turbo is roughly 247 no? I dont mean to get it higher than that. I just want to see how much it would cost to get it close to stock 951T. Apologies for the post as I am not a turbo owner.

Non S turbos were 210+hp at the crank and the S turbos were close to the 247 you are mentioning. The S turbos were only available in 1988 as the "turbo s" and also in 1989 when all the turbos were to "s" standards.
You can put a super charger on an S2 - there is a guy on here that did it - Blue Camaro or something like that was his user name. He ended up taking it off and selling it as he was not satisfied with the increase in performance. I think it only yielded 30 to 40 more HP. To seriously turbo a S2 you need to crack open the block - change out the rods and pistons and then you need a custom intake and lots of plumbing etc. If you have lots of money and time then go for it but that is not my cup of tea. I would rather drive than wrench
