Default Brake Calipers

I am planning on painting my brake calipers on my turbo S. DO I need to remove the calipers or can I paint them on the car for ease?

Anything to be careful of?

BEst way to remove greese and oil before painting?

Is this stuff any good?

Hey why even bother removing your wheels. Just spray through the spokes.

i think its safe to say you need to remove them to do a good job. use brake cleaner to remove dirt and grease and make sure you cover up the pistons before painting.

The only right way to go is to remove calipers, strip old clear laquer off with paintstripper, after that proper wash up and then new powder coating. Powder coating is even cheaper way to go compared all kind of caliper paints.

I painted mine 2 years ago with this stuff:
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/caliper.html

Just clean and prep them well, brush the paint on and let dry, no need to remove calipers. I used a softer brush than what came in the kit. I was concerned about brush marks but the paint dry smooth and you wouldn't even know I used a brush by looking at them. Even after some massive heat cycles and one winter of sitting outside there still look as good as the day I painted them.

When I get around to paining my wheels, I plan to use this stuff also if I can thin it enough to spray.

I post some pics and had a brief write up on the process I went through last winter, do a seach under for 'caliper rebuild' under my user name and you should be able to find it. Good luck.

Don't step on the brakes if the capilers are off the rotors with the hydraulics still attached. The caliper pistons make interesting projectiles, and the reseal kits --available only from Porsche -- cost more than the gross national product of some small countries, and are a pain to use.

Some newer Monoblock caliper seals fit also to "Old-School" Brembos. Those seals can be bought separately and they do not cost much.

Here's some calipers after "fresh" powder coat. There are Pete's and mine GT2/GT3 combos and Tommy's "moped-brakes" ex. Big Blacks & original 951 rears

Just have also yours powder coated, you won't regret it

After powder coating these calipers got all new seals, pistons etc.
