Default Transmission whine

What's going on when your cruising on a highway and your in 3rd 4th or 5th and you take your foot off the gas and your lsd trany whines like a jet engine? No performance problems noticed only whine.

I've noticed a lot of 944s do this. Both of mine did. I believe this is due to poorly designed ring & pinion. Which is difficult to replace, better off buying a used tranny. Its annoying but I can live with it for now. The hard part is figuring out if the noise is really coming from the transaxle or the torque tube or possibly the throw out bearing.

change to a thick fluid, like LE607, now replaced by something with a 4 digit number, your LE dealer should know.

Very common, due to Ring and Pinion clearances. Like many women, some whine more than others and you learn to live with it as it/she is expensive to replace
