I've seen much higher mileage cars that have been looked after and look just as good, so personally I wouldn't pay a premium for low miles. If I was in the market for one, rather than buying a car from a collector, who probably doesn't know the first thing about the car, I would rather buy a 100+ mile one from an enthusiast who has maintained the car well for half the price.
Still it's good that someone would pay that money as it shows value in the whole Porsche transaxle range and keeps the prices strong.

The most awe-inspiring part is the interior! MAN that's pretty!
I wonder if it still has the original 14k miles 25-year-old timing belt...

Now before everyone starts bashing low-mileage cars as usual, be honest with yourself and admit that you'd like to have it. 9K is a great price for that car if you appreciate 944's. With only 14k miles almost nothing is likely to be worn out, and if garage kept all the rubber except engine seals is likely still good and soft. I'd love to have that car, IMO there's something to be said for a car that's all-original, even if it's not a "collector's car." It's pretty rare to find any car, especially a 944 that old that hasn't been screwed up by PO's or restored. I saw a perfect S2 cab with about 14K miles on ebay get snatched up with a buy-it-now of $13,750 shortly after I got my car, and have never forgiven myself for letting it go. Rant over.

The real issue is the fact that it fetched the nine grand at BJ auctions. Half the bidders there barely know what a Porsche is. It's all about old american muscle. A quality car doesn't necessarily bring the best prices. A great restoration does.
A few days ago there was a 930 that went for thirty something. It wasn't showroom, but it was an immaculate driver with records.
The lot after that was a restored camaro that went for $65,000!
Crazy!

I saw this car sell for $5500 and it's a late '85. Mileage isn't listed in the details but I recall it being low - like 35K....see lot 102.
Prettier color too..dark gray metallic.

I love the early dash and gauges
+1.
Just the knowledge that some moron hasn't had a chance to get hold of this one makes it worth at least $11k in my book. The early cars are light as hell, and without power steering are a real hoot. I know I'm in the minority here - but I've owned and driven both extensively, and if we're talking NA 944s, I'd take an early 83 over any other year. It's not like you're getting more power with the later ones, so you may as well have as much fun as you can get with less weight out of the box.
Likewise, taking care of a car may lessen the impact of mileage and time... but there is nothing like an original, low mileage example. Anyone who says differently hasn't owned one.
