How do I know if an 88 951 is an S?
#16
I actually looked at a few 88's when I was shopping, and out of maybe 10-12 cars I looked at, at least 3-4 had the dual port intake (I only remember this because of the 'excitement' of finding an S). After verifying the options codes, none of those had the right codes.

The frame reinforcements as mentioned are probably the best indicator, as it isn't likely to be added on an attempted forgery. No difference in VIN. If the window sticker is no longer available, the PCA can verify (for club members and a fee) that the VIN is to an S and give you a Certificate of Authority . I have such a certificate for my black '88 951S. The 951S had many standard options. Should have the 10 speaker radio, ABS, split rear seat (I guess), power locks, mirrors, windows, cruise, rear differential cooler, besides bigger brakes, clubsports, M030, etc.

This is weird, I googled the VIN and came up with a link to the car
from the previous owner / dealer that sold the car to the present owner.
Plenty of pictures.
Does anyone know this car or anything about the dealer?
Any idea what its worth?

If the car is up to date maitenance wise.. i would say in the area of $10.5k, give or take $1k based on interior, body work..etc.
If your still suspect about it being a Turbo S, look for these gusset plates on the front frame rails..

[QUOTE=Bonestock951S;5259983]Go check it out, and look for the following:
Two vacuum ports between intake runners 3 and 4:
I can see the 2 vacuum ports in one of the pictures.

[QUOTE=gstreev;5261709]That is still NOT a valid Turbo S check. As I, and some others, have seen that intake on non S cars.

The car appears to be a Turbo S in the pictures. Just look for the frame strengthening gussets and you'll know for sure. FYI for anyone who is curious, here is a breakdown of the VIN:

Looks like it has the dual things on the intake manifold. Hard to see if it has the gussets or not.
Certainly has the M030 bearings on it. But it is missing the cover for the interior air intake to the climate control. Seems silly to not have that if you are going through all of this preparation to sell it?
Kind of weird also about the red thing on the throttle body/TPS, mine doesn't have that, but mine is not an "S" either.
Looks like that car has some history that is not coming out, especially with the obvious respray of the rear...
Interior looks pretty nice. Maybe $10k is reasonable for it.
Cheers,
Keith

Whatever the red thing on the TB is, its over the idle adjustment screw. My car is an S and has nothing like that. I really wouldn't care if it were msising the cover for the interior cabin temp sensor. The only thing I don't like is the rear end. Seriously check it out. Pull the rear hatch carpet and inspect down inside the pockets. Also check up inside the rear wheel wells and scoot up under the rear (its high enough) looking for welds or any body work.

Regardless of what you say, my own personal research has shown me that it was only on Turbo S cars, if a non S car has it
