I am going to agree with all the others that have said boxster. A c2 in that range will have issue more than likely. The 968, while a nice car, is getting up there in age. Also, if she ever gets tired of it you can make a spec boxster racer.

Glad to here everything is going well.

I find it humorous that not many people are picking the 968 in the 951 list...

The C2 is OVER the budget, 42k miles with all records. 968 is a 95 model, 62k. Boxster is an S, 22k and a 2002.
Well, those are the present choices that I've found, I have till the end of summer; that's a good thing after doing taxes today and that @#%^, @#%^^#!!! AMT tax. F'k ME.

I bought my wife all 3. First a 968, then a Boxster and now a 993C2. I am not a big Boxster fan, but I have to say it was the best of the 3. Very solid, very refined, easy to drive. Personally I prefer the 993 for its rarity, and its much more of a drivers car and we can get the kids in the back, but its typical cab rattles, noisy and windy.
I love 968's and I am now looking for another.

You should hear the Mustang convertible rattles. However, she loves it, bought it without "male influence" as she puts it. Me, I say "no $hit honey, otherwise there would have been a 5.0 under the hood".

I really like 968s, but they are not light, especially the cabrio. Also, the earlier tip seems to more of a performance impact in the 968 than the later cars, based on test reports I have seen.

For the given budget, I'd go with a Boxster.

I think any woman smart enough to get with a class act that likes to drive high performance cars, will not be satisfied with a stock ride after being with you in your car. At least mine isn't. So, against most, I'd go for a 944 or 968 Cab. Has to have the shoes and splitter on the outside. Wet looking paint, and a modified motor. Besides, you can do all the work yourself. Why go with a boxster when she'll just drive down the street with thousands of others driving the same car.

A girl who looks nothing close to her age should drive a car that will match her in looking much younger than its age, and look sexy doing it. I would think your wife is a stand out girl. Nothing about a boxter stands out. Plus, and I don't know about you guys, but a girl driving a car most guys would drive is sexier than hell. Ever see a woman driving a Twin Turbo. Pretty damn sexy. Now picture a woman driving a 944/968 with cosmetic updates that will outrun a Twin Turbo. Pretty sexy.

My wife was also a Mustang Convertable fan. I tried to convince her otherwise. I tried offering her a BMW M3, which she refused saying that she hated them. I offered her a Corvette, but was told it was impractical. So I got her a GT which she liked . I absolutely hated it and couldn't wait to get rid of it, the depreciation made me cry at night.

That was the last time I gave in. I vowed we would only buy German from that point. I searched for a 993 Cab 6 spd for more than a year. Except for the charisma the Boxster is a much better car in so many ways. Modern water cooled engine, great heating and cooling. The convertable top is fantastic, one simple button, no fooling with covers etc. The roof fit tight, no wind noise or drafts, and the chassis are very solid. Ours had the computer for Trip etc that was a very nice feature. I would have preferred one with a glass rear window, and I would also go for an S the next time, and stay with stick. From a performance perspective the Boxster feels just as quick as the C2 and it was nonS. The biggest dissapointment with the C2 is the performance, its OK but not thrilling. The 944 is much more fun.

My wife loves the C2, if it wasn't for the extra seats, we would probably switch back to a BoxsterS

Default Something Classic - 930

I'm not entirely sure what $25K buys you in the States - but I'd be looking at a classic, something a bit rare, that you can't just run down to any dealer & pick-up at the drop of a hat. I think most women who have any interest in nice wheels would be a sucker for a classic '80's 930 in black. There's something about the 911 turbo which brings out the animal in any red-blooded petrol head. They are a classic & a good one is sure to hold it's value. Of course the '89 with the G50 5-speed sells at a premium to the 915 box four speeds. The 3.3 litre turbo is a beast!

Well this 5'10" brunette, wants a tiptronic. 968's may be getting older but wherever you go, with an exceptional one, people still ask, "is that a new model"? They're just not everywhere - that's probably my first choice, then Boxster, then C2.

This is what jwl bought for his wife, which is still at IA, supposed to be delivered in November...now it's March. But she wanted a 5 spd, and who would say no to a beautiful, tall, TX blonde and you get a 930 in the garage to boot.

968 cabrio all the way. Boxsters are not exclusive anymore, and C2s are, well, 911s with all the joys of rear-engined air-cooled Porschedom.

I figure you're already a front-engined Porsche expert, so you'll probably contribute your time and effort to keeping it in top running condition for your wife at considerable savings to boot.

Bret,
May i ask, whatever p-car you decide to purchase, are you going to carry out any maintenance and repairs you're self?

The 968 is pretty much the same as the 944 series (minor differences with engine), but the boxster and 911 are different and would need new tools, manuals and so on.

Take that into consideration?

Yes, that's why I still think my first choice would be the 968. She likes the model but the other day a friend of mine was over in his wife's Boxster S ( he's the one that has the 996TT, 1986 turbo look Carrera, 02 Cup Car, Audi RSR8, wife has the S55 AMG and the Boxster S) and she said how nice it was.

The Boxster has had some RMS issues and some of the C2 were damn near bullet proof with proper maintenance, of course, I guess that could be an argument for all. But like you said, the 968 would be the easiest for me personally to transition to for her.
