Home made Eruo fog lights. Cheap mod.
#16
You guys are bringing back memories. I did this mod to my 89 951 in 1999/2000 and built the wiring instructions using a separate fog light switch. This allows you to use the driving lights as DRLs and flashes them when you pull back on the turn signal stalk. If anyone needs the wiring, let me know. FYI, not for the faint of heart.

I too just changed a US fog in to a Euro, except I started
with a damaged Euro housing.
My biggest challenge was removing the Driving light
adjustment screws without damaging the white plastic retainers.
A few suggestions JE 951.
First, you could file down the sliders so they fit in the rails better.
Second, using springs, washers, and retainers on the adjuster screws
may help keep the reflectors more stable and aligned.
As a replacement for the plastic retainer, you could cut a grove around the screw
using a Dremel and use a c-clip to keep the spring in place.
I’m including some pics of my Euro wire harness from the UK.
I don’t know if these match with the US version.
Pin 1 is Black to the Fog lamp
Pin 2 is Brown jumped to each ground point.
Pin 3 is Yellow to the marker lamp on the fog reflector
Pin 4 is White to the Driving lamp
This harness number is 951 612 061 00, but I don’t know if it’s available.
I meant to post this conversion a few days ago, only using a US fog
to replace a damaged Euro lens or housing.
You’ve gone a few steps further… nice job!

Very good idea on using springs. I will have to look into this and give it a try.
Anyone have a broken/cracked fog light laying around? I need a bulb reflector and 2 more plastic clips!!! Maybe I will jsut make a post for it...

also: I will deffinately be filing down the sliders better. I did that real quick to take video/photos for the post. Plus that was just a practice run on the broken one.

Went to the hardware store yesterday and picked up some more bolts. The size I ended up going with was M4 x 70 with a 0.7 thread pitch. These were a little longer than the ones that come with the lights, but longer seemed to be a better option than shorter. I couldn't find anything exactly the right length, it was somewhere between the 55 and 70mm they had on hand. Anyway, my plan is to use nuts to secure the bolts instead of clips or springs. I am hoping that I will be able to thread the nut away from the housing a bit, install and adjust the lights, remove the housing again, and then thread the nuts (and washer) against the housing to secure the bolts. Will see how it works. I can't imagine these would need adjusting all that often.

sounds like a good plan to me. If it was me however, You may want to retain the factory clips since they are very secure to the bulb reflector, and if they need to be more seciure, you can use a nut on the front side of the clip aswell as on the backside to secure it from moving. Hope that makes sense? Anyways, Im still waiting on anothe reflector so im excited to see how well your kits work! hope my post inspired some of you guys!

THe clips I am referring to are the little grey plastic clips that the bolts go through on the reflector piece. They snap into the reflector and allow for that side to be pivoted in any direction.
