Default Is the black wire to the coil always hot?

Was looking for some switched power and found a bunch of hot wires to the DME, coil and other places ----with the ignition off!

Is this the way it is or has my ignition switch kicked the bucket??

Maybe this is the battery has had a slow drain----for the past 5 years???

LOL

Many thanks,

Cy

The black wire at the coil is only supposed to be hot with the key on.

Sounds like you need to replace the ignition switch. The switch is not that expensive, but it isn't a fun job to replace it. If you don't replace it, be warned. Several cars have had a major short in the switch, which generated tons of smoke (no fuse in this circuit) and tried to self start with no one in the car. Major damage to the wiring harness.
