Default The big suspension thread

I know it's annoying by now going on thread three but I promise if everyone just selects the suspension they enjoy it will help everyone out =)

If I missed any competent ones that sucks, just post about them.

1. What suspension? Strut/shock valving? Spring rates?
2. Use of the car (street, street/track, track/street, track, full race) and model.
3. Handling characteristics.
4. Ride quality (for any street use).
5. Comparison to other suspension used (not just conjecture).
6. Satisfaction with the particular set-up. What's right? What's not so right?
7. Ballpark price paid.

I really fail to see how this will help anyone out...the majority of the people will just choose what they have installed?

edit: more info was added to original post, makes a bit more sense now.

I think the poll itself would show the popularity of various suspension set-ups. Whether this is useful to anyone, I'm not sure. I, personally, AM interested in seeing the results.

I think the real value (and it would be of IMMENSE value to most readers) would be the posts detailing experience with particular suspensions.

For instance, I would love to hear the experiences of users regarding:
1. What suspension? Strut/shock valving? Spring rates?
2. Use of the car (street, street/track, track/street, track, full race) and model.
3. Handling characteristics.
4. Ride quality (for any street use).
5. Comparison to other suspension used (not just conjecture).
6. Satisfaction with the particular set-up. What's right? What's not so right?
7. Ballpark price paid.

jasonlp,
I don't mean to hijack your thread(s). It seems that we're on a hunt for similar info. Please let me know if this post is not what you had intended for this thread, and I'll remove it.

There is an awful lot of subjectivity when it comes to suspension setups.

It would be like choosing a wife based on her past boyfriend's opinions. Until you spend time with it and ride it hard, you have no idea if it will be the right choice for you. Just sayin'.

ok, I'll bite:

1. What suspension? Strut/shock valving? Spring rates?
F: 350# springs, Koni yellows, tarret sway bar, Paragon coilover kit
R: 30mm tbars, Koni yellows,
Also: KLA strut brace & Racers Edge camber plates, Weltmeister poly bushings
Front alignment: max caster, ~2.0 camber, 0.00 toe
Rear alignment: ~1.5 camber, 0.05 toe in
Tires: Kuhmo Escta MX (street), Toyo RA1's (track)
2. Use of the car (street, street/track, track/street, track, full race) and model.
'87 944 n/a (slight weight reduction - 2800#'s?)
80% autocross, 10% DE, 10% street
3. Handling characteristics.
Currently running w/ front sway set to ~50%, rear set to 80% soft. Shocks are at about 80% stiff front & rear. Oversteers on large bumps, and understeers slightly on smooth road... although stiffening the shocks has helped quite a bit with this.
In real slow corners I'm getting a lot of inside-rear wheel lift, although softening the rear swaybar has helped with this. Unfortunately it seems to introduce understeer at about the same rate.
I'd love to go to better shocks, but will see what 400# front springs & more front camber will do.
4. Ride quality (for any street use).
My girlfriend claims it's smoother than the STi, but I feel it's a bit harsher. Certainly very 'streetable' however, IMHO.
5. Comparison to other suspension used (not just conjecture).
1000% better than stock 944 suspension (in every way). Similar to STi, but has much better turn-in.
6. Satisfaction with the particular set-up. What's right? What's not so right?
Wish I had more headroom in the shocks, as well as double-adjustability. Unfortunately I currently don't have the budget for anything better.
7. Ballpark price paid.

iunno there, i think you can get a pretty good idea about a wife from her past boyfriends, ie , "dude she's a bitch" or "She brings me breakfast in the mornings"

Misogynistic ramblings aside, this is, indeed, a very subjective issue. But, without the ability to test drive many set-ups, other people's subjective descriptions are all we have to go on. That's why we need many detailed descriptions. We can then interpolate all of the opinions to obtain trends and consistencies.

Thanks to Scootin Newton for the info in the requested format. If everyone provides opinion and experience in the same manner, we can gleam more accurate and consistent info, and be able to sort it in ways that are useful to us all.

If you fail to consider causation, those opinions provide nothing of value.
