and do a timing belt service? I have a pretty decent oil leak from the balance shaft and I need to get an idea how much this should cost. the shop my Porsche is at is really more of a bmw race place but they deal with Porsche on a pretty regular basis but I think its been a while since they've seen a 951 and based on what they told me, I'm not confident that they will do the job as quickly as a specialist would be able to.
the 951 is a 88

at approx $90 and hour and estimates of 5-6 hours
it behooves you to always do the most you can for these old cars yourself.
i know you agree
simply put we...most of us....can't afford these car's maintenance otherwise

well I normally do all the work myself or at least on my last car i did but for the time being, I dont have the time, the facilities or the interest in doing the work myself.
right now the balance shafts are not hooked up but the PO included all the parts and most of the new seals. this car is going to see street and track use, mostly track and lots of it, so i think i feel more comfortable with the balance shafts hooked up the way they were designed to work. this way if i blow the engine down the road at least i'll have done everything possible to get the engine running properly.
what do you guys think about balance shafts? worth hooking up or not?
