Default SFR Exhaust Opinions

OK, thanks to Uncle Sam, I believe that an SFR exhaust will be at my doorstep in the near future.

My question is, does anyone have any preference for the Quiet-flow vs. the Borla XR-1? I plan on keeping my OE cat for now, and eventualy getting the test-pipe with bolt in cat option at a later date. I want a great sound that won't wake my neighbors up in the morning. Well at least not ALL of them.

I understand that flow is almost equal with these systems, it's more the sound I am concerned about. Sound clips online are always misleading, so what you get is a tossup at best so I am looking for personal recomendations.

Thanks!

Go XR-1, it's not ricey and you still have the turbo muffling the sound. On the track, I actually want to hear the sound better. I think my SFR pipe with cat on my NA is louder than the SFR on the turbo sans-cat. You live in Mooresville also, doesn't everybody run around with straight pipes on their Monty Carlo's anyway?

I have the Quiet flow with test pipe from SFR and it is perfect, not sure what the sound would be like w/ cat in place. I did not want to attract alot of attention and I could not be more happy.

Is he not offering the Bullet anymore or has the XR-1 taking it's place? Mine is just where I want it, nice sports car sound but when full throttle is applied, it's perfect.

I have his setup with the XR-1 and love it. My wife was worried about how loud it would be (Don't get me wrong, at full throttle it sounds awesome) but it doesn't even wake her up in the morning. And when you first fire it up it sounds pretty damn nice (a nice deep bass rumble)

LOL, mine is too loud for the wife on "date" night, so I took the stock muffler(sumbitch is heavy too) and had a local shop put a 3" pipe on it, expand it and split it. I can swap assemblies in 7 minutes. The car is almost .7 on the AFR, richer, when the stock unit is on compared to good flow of the SFR muffler/tip.

I have the bullet muffler on mine and like the sound ( I am NOT a fan of loud exhaust). Overall it is pretty mellow, especially at part throttle. Their site compared to the sound of the XR1 at a lower price.

The exhaust is a nice piece with an excellent fit. After removing the stock exhaust, it took me about 15 minutes to bolt on using my in-laws pit.

I will be installing the front section this spring.

Highly recommended.

I love my SFR. Bought it about 5yrs ago on the Rennlist group buy. I think we all paid $439 shipped which was pretty wicked. Its not real loud on a turbo, but sounds like a stock turbo would coming from the factory but with an added kick. Doesnt sound aftermarket at all. Its also manufactured very well and looks good.

The bullet is still listed on the site, I just was unsure of that option. Is the Bullet system the one you are recomending Chris?

I have the SFR mid pipe/test pipe , performance CAT, and Cat back with Borla. I've run just the mid pipe with and without CAT and stock exhaust and it sounded nice and healthy over stock. But , when I removed the CAT and stock cat-back and installed the Borla cat-back, it totally transformed the car! Much more power or, at least, quicker spooling. VERY noticable. Sound is incredible, albeit, loud. I've been told it sounds like a Ferrari. Nothing like a ricer. Ferraris are loud, yes, but not too many enthusiasts have a problem with that sound. Similar with the 951 w/ SFR -Borla setup.

I also have a full 3'' on my car, Fabspeed downpipe / test pipe section with the SFR catback and Bullet mufler. It sounds fantastic, pretty docile off boost, but comes alive when you get on it. Cant wait to try out atmospheric dump with the wastegate..

I too have the SFR test pie with the Borla XR-1 muffler...not too load, just perfect....Not ricer at all which was a big concern for me...Well worth the price, it's a great setup...

Another SFR owner here and I went through this same search about a year ago Doug and I opted for Tim's cat with a Magnaflow. Slightly louder than the, at the time, available Edlebrock RPM but quieter than the XR-1. Now a year plus later, I miss the refinement of a quiet Pcar exhaust so I'll be talking with Tim later this morning about his Quiet Flow.

The SFR build is outstanding but the main selling point was the correct flare where the WG ties in.
