Default Rough price to install different R&P into 968?

What's a ballpark price to install taller R&P into 968 trans?
Anyone?
Thanks.

Local shops here quote 10 to 12 hours once it's on the bench which is nuts but if you've done a few diffs before and have a factory manual.......it's not that bad.

Well, I was planning on either:
-installing a 3.23 or so R&P and making dog ring/gears out of a 968 OR....
-buying a 996 TT

Only 1/2 kidding, really.

Over the summer I purchased an 87 non-LSD turbo tranny. I had removed the LSD unit form another trans that had a bad R&P. A local shop charged me $350 to put the LSD unit in and set the R&P. I did all the other work such as removal of fluids and installation of the trans in the car. Of course, your mileage may vary ;^)

There's a discussion in the 968 board right now... it looks like the 968 gearbox is good for about 180mph at redline. Are you trying to get to 200?

Yes, in the 1/4.

But I also need closer ratios with my powerband.
I was hitting the limiter in 4th at the drag strip on my old S2 transmissions, and the AOR is very nice, but the gear spacing problem (for me) is still there.

I would like to have a 968 with 3.23 or so final and dog ring engagement, if there is anyone on the planet who has the skilz to do that.

I don't think that there is an alternative cw&p for the 968 box. How about putting in the closer ratio gears? I'm pretty sure they're available. You should probably have about 8 of them though with your powerband!

Dude - I gotta admit, you and Todd have the market cornered on being annoying.

Actually, your buddy probably DOES know something about this, doesn't he.

Doing it yourself without the proper special tools is foolish. Especially knowing what he is going to do with the car. You HAVE to set the pinion depth and the backlash properly or it will not survive.

PM Chris Cervelli, he is working on a 968 box with similar goals for a 3.0 16v 951. The cost of the job isn't the issue, it's the cost of the gears. The R&P alone is close to 3K. I had a chance to purchase a 968Turbo RS box from Porsche for what seemed like a ton of money. Knowing what I know now, it was a deal.

Good luck.

The $64,000 question is...
can it be converted to "dog" engagement?

PM Chris or me. I can give you contact information to Chris and/or Garrity at MotorSport. Garrity has built these boxes for over 20years.

Ummmm, yeah. Assuming you have the proper tools. I guess I should have stated that it's a real pain in the *** to do with a tape measure and hammer. However, it's not rocket science setting up pinion depth or backlash. Just time consuming and detailed.
