Pat,

My engine builder had custom PP's and discs built by ClutchMasters. I had a 4 puck disc before and it was not very good for the street. The ClutchMasters disc is a full surface Kevar and ceramic material that Garrity has had very good luck with on the 3.0+ motors. It won't hold like my 4 puck, but the shudder on takeoff will be gone. I had the 4 puck disc relined and will keep it handy if I need to put it back in.

Your KPP is hopefully fine. A KPP II on a car with 250WHP failing with very few miles is upsetting. Hopefully this is just a few PP. Kennedy has always made very good products.

Well perhaps due to a lack of time and patience, I've gone for the 6 puk in combo with the Blaszak PP. Hope these things wear in a little because it's no longer a joy to drive, but it's fine really once you take off. That's the worst part of course. Have to see what peak hour traffic is like...
These things do wear in just a little don't they???

Pat,

Mine never really did. I would have to rev the car a bit to get a chatterless take off. It's abusive, but it worked. I hope this new Kevlar/Ceramic full disc that I put in will hold and not chatter. You will always have this chatter on takeoff with a puck style disc. OOPS, I should say this is my opinion and from my personal experience. No flaming please.

It's not the PP that is the issue though Facman, it's the 6 puk. Anyway it's not undriveable, just a hassle on take off. Once up and going it's fine although it's all brand new and I'll have to get used to it too.

Sounds like you got your car up and running so congrats on that. I have never tried a 6 puck disc but on my Kevlar discs and even the feramic disc the chatter was worse initially and then around the 1000 mile mark it started getting much smoother. Good luck and let us know how the car runs.

Pat,

You will also notice this when downshifting at the track. I know you match revs when downshifting, but if you don't you will CHATTER the rear when engaging the disc if you don't match the rev's on downshift. I got better as my driving improved, but you will notice this if things aren't done perfectly in aggressive track driving. This caused my axle bolts to come loose after a full day at the track. I now use whiteout on the bolts to mark proper torque to allow easy visual inspection.

I suppose my driving could have been better, but I was getting used to this very aggressive clutch on a tight track.

Thanks Dan. Yes car is going. Only done a handfull of miles so nothing really to report other than it's not parked in the workshop for the first time in many months. lol I shall report once we've got a few more miles under our belts.
George that's what I wondered about too. The release point of this clutch is pretty high up on the pedal, almost full out, so that makes it tricky too. Bit of practice and I'll have it licked...or be sideways off the track under late braking...

I understand the frustration of not being able to drive your car. For me it is the same every year. The winter's here are pretty hard and so the car just gets parked every year. It is always a good time to try to add a few upgrades though. Have fun let us know how the break in goes.

Just went for a 4.00am drive and punched out a quick 60kms. Everything feels and looks good. Still a few things to do, but so far so good. Getting better at the clutch but the track will be the test.

Glad to hear your up and running Pat - and now discovering the nuances associated with your mods by the sounds of it.
