Default Rims for 2" Widebody?

What wheels and tires would you suggest for a 1989 944T that's getting 2-inch wider rear quarter panels?

I know everyone has their own opinion about wheels on a 944, so let's hear them!

Pics are always helpful...thanks in advance!

Go with a 13" wide rim, its going to look the best and give the 951 the supercar look you're trying to get with wider body panels. Kenisis (before the buyout by the ghetto rim company) are amazingly great rims, I'm a bit biased but whatever. See below for sizing information and tire brand. Only give your Porsche the best, don't skimp on wheels or tires, cheap heavy wheels suck and crappy tires will allow anything to out handle you.

Kinesis K57 Wheels
Tires are Pirelli P Zero's, 245/45/17 fronts and 335/35/17 rears
5x130 Bolt Pattern
17x10 fronts - back spacing 7"
17x13 rears - back spacing 8"

Wow, that's beautiful!^

Right now I have OEM "Twist" wheels on it, and I've been downplaying the idea of changing rims because of the quality of the factory rims, but if I'm going to add 2 inches to the rear width, I'm going to have to do something to the wheels...

Good call on OEM stuff..very, very hard to get better stuff in the aftermarket unless you're going with a race wheel like BBS modular, Fiske or Kenisis.

Best bet is to call up the guys over at Wheel Enhancement.com, they're super great and can answer just about every question. They carry the top stuff and can ship wheels with tires to you for your needs.

Bob Woodman also has great BBS wheel stuff - great prices as well. I was going to use him for my 935 project but ended up getting real magnesium BBS wheels from an old 935.

Doug does your rear stick out just a little too much for a road car? Plus what about those sizes that you quote and Guns does too? From what I can find out we need sizes more close to each other front and rear to combat understeer and even out tyre heat front and rear. I am looking at more like 11's f and 12's rear and not having more than 30 or 40ml at the very most between the tyre widths. I am thinking more like 295s f and 315's rear. kiyokskia, you will have to be careful of the same problem if you only increase your rears. You will more than likely have BIG understeer.

Question wow!

Im running 225 F / 285R and there is "noticable" understeer (with a manual rack) ... I cant imagine low speed manuvering with anything larger... are you guys keeping the power steering?

Patrick is correct on the understeer issue. With the 935 I'm building I had to put 315's up front and 355's in the rear (in street trim).

If you don't track the car much though, the understeer won't be all that bad, just at the limits. However if you do track the car get wider front panels to match as it will make a world of difference with more contact patch steering the car, holding on more to compensate for what the rear is doing.

I am a strong advocate for using roughly the same size of tires F/R on track.

Everybody complains about understeer, but nobody takes the natural solution to increase rubber size. F.

I run 285x18 F and 305x18 R slicks, 260 F/R wet, car handles like a dream.

I listened to you Hans way down in Australia. I'm looking at going up to 11's and 12's when I go widebody. I'm just trying to find which brands have them in these sizes for our cars and what looks good too. I'll probably get some road ones as well.
I've heard that there has been a problem with the Kinesis brand. Can anyone elaborate, and are these worth pursuing?
thx

I have actually payed for custom 3 piece rims and all, but haven't given the guy the measurements I have early offsett 86 arms now, but will go wider for the widebody so less stress on hubs.

I can calculate the correct ET needed from the 18x8 and 18x11 setup I now have, but then I would need to know how much more 87+ builds, has anyone got the numbers? what do you guys with 18x11' on 87+ run of ET?

So let me get this straight...

If I want the wheels to remain flush to the edge of the rear quarters, I would need to run on 13-inch tires...but it would kill my steering.

So what do the Porsche people suggest?

You could just skip the widebody and save a ton of money. What would be wrong with a 255/265 f and 285/295 rear setup?

Do realize that a 285 or 295 is more then enough tire for most cars. My 285's are sitting at over 11" wide. What are you doing that is going to necessitate running a 315+ rear tire?
