Good Turbocharging Book
I picked up an excellent book on turbochargers that covers in detail many of the topics posted on this forum. It covers all aspects of system design and goes very deep into the individual components of the turbo itself. It provides plenty of math and tables for the engineers in the group.
Of particular intestest to this group will be the sections on double ball bearing configurations vs. journal bearings, compressor wheel sizing and choosing the correct A/R ratio.
Interesting tidbit: "The biggest advantage of ball bearing - equiped center housing and rotating assemblies in gasoline applications is their ability to create boost sooner in the engine's rpm range - Sometimes 500-700 rpm sooner. This is due almost solely to their lower rotating friction."
This book compliments Nize's recent post on turbochargers and his benchmarking.
Streat Turbochargers, Mark Warner, P.E., HPBooks, June 2006, ISBN: 1-55788-488-9.
$19.95, available from amazon.com.
