Remove the motor from the bottom...large/tall jack stands are a must. Some people will tell you that the transmission has to come out in order to remove the torque tube...but this is not so. Remove the radiator & fans to give yourself enough rooom to slide the motor forward after you disconnect the bell housing from the torque tube. Then drop the motor, still attached to cross member and control arms, onto a large furniture dolly (or similar). If you search, you can find several posts on this topic. Best of luck...

Absolute easiest way?

Pull the engine wiring harness out of the passenger cabin and set it on the engine. Pull the fuel lines off, pull the wiring for the alternator off the battery and set it on the engine, remove the transaxle, remove the slave cylinder, pull the torque tube out of the bell housing, unbolt the front suspension and crossmember, raise the car off the engine while keeping the wheels attached to the suspension (put a 1000lb mover's dolly with some boards under the engine). I've take them out the top, and the bottom. It's MUCH easier to go out the bottom. I can do it in no time at all now.

I just did it ^^ that way and it took me longer to do it that way (with suspension/crossmember all hooked up) then to actually disconnect the crossmember and drop it out of the way. Haggling with all the extra parts in the above picture just doesn't make sense, it's too much. Disconnect it out of the way before you drop the motor. Then you don't have to worry about jacking up your paint on the fenders from the hanging suspension. Remove the parts first, then drop it. Unless that is, you want to show off and drop it in one piece. Then by all means, go for it.

Ah yes, I did it purely to show off. There's a surprise coming from DDP. I think it's time for me to go on hiatus.

Relax. As much as it looked as if it was directed at you, it wasn't meant that way. I did it myself just the other day to try it. Last week actually. I thought it'd be cool to try, and it's cool to see if you have spectators. But I think that's the only reason to do it. I don't think it's easier. Just my opinion of course I would hope you don't let ppl have that much effect on you with such a simple comment.

keep the engine extremely level and drop it from the bottom. i used a floor jack and enigne hoist to keep engine level cause my head was off. Yes, i had a leveler. it would be easier if you could undo the clutch fork, but mine was seized. I removed the engine with the bellhousing attached because i couldn't undo the clutch fork. Removed front radiator for more space.

You really have to be crazy to be removing an engine in sandals... especially from the bottom.

It looks like everything went well though! What did you do with the engine? Everything looks clean.
