Default Engine Rebuild

Hi Guys,

I have agreed to buy a 951 S track car. It has recently blown its engine and will be sold with a replacement rebuilt engine. I trust the seller who is haveing the engine replaced at a well known Porsche race garage however what work should I expect to the engine to have had???

minimum is new seals, gaskets, hone............................??????

Please let me know your thoughts

"Blown engine" could encompass much possible destruction.
Please elaborate.

When you say "blown" motor. What happened?

If its going to be a race motor, it needs to be torn down cleaned, pressure checked, line bore checked, measured, honed or sleeved, surfaced, re cleaned. Inspect the crank, rods, etc.. New gaskets, bearings etc.. The list goes on..

Be thankful somebody else is doing the work, otherwise it will destroy your life. LOlz

Like they said, "blown" engine means a lot of things. Are you sticking with the 2.5L motor?

the engine is a 2.5 and it basically blasted the rod through the bottom of the engine!!!! The garage has sourced a replacement bottom end and is going to perform the rebuild. (all at the cost of current owner) The head and turbo were all recently rebuilt and I have been told they are fine. Just want to check what I should expect to have happened to the bottom end rebuild!

What sort of freaky little kinko club are you men running up there? Atten-hun!

Sounds a bit weird that they are replacing/rebuilding at owners cost. I can't imagine that he'll spend every last dollar to make that engine perfect. I'd rather pay for the car as is at a much cheaper price and source the builder myself. Of course they could all be stand up guys too.

+1. You do not want to cut corners on an engine rebuild. Didn't I see a used water pump for sale recently??

Make sure all devices that have oil running through them are flushed and inspected for metal fragments... hoses, coolers, turbo, head etc.

How can you make sure of this?^Stand there? If you know and trust your builder that would be a greater insurance.
Hey Hans, how did you go with all that body paneling?
