Default Can anybody tell me what backspace means?

Hello there!

I'm searching for new wheels right now. (Fikse FM10 or FM5)
I have found some, but there is a backspace instead of the ET

So do you know if these 17x 9 and 17x10 rims fit on my 87 turbo?

Front wheels- back space 7 1/4"/ front space 2 7/8"

Rear wheels- back space 7 1/4" / front space 3 7/8"

Thanks, Philip

Do a google search for wheel backspace and you'll find all sorts of helpful guides but basically backspace is the distance from a wheel's mounting surface to the back edge of the wheel.

I guess I should have read your whole post. I've yet to do rims so I can't help out much other than that. I do know that the offset is required to clear the brakes and they probably figured you just use spacers until the wheel cleared. Someone else will have to chime in cause I'm not sure if those wheels will work but they sound too wide.

So then the 17x9 have ET 70 and the 17x10 have ET57?

7.25-4.5= 2.75 => 6.985cm
7.25-5= 2.25 => 5.715cm

right?

EDIT: they should fit if the et/backspace is right. But they are not too wide. A friend has 18x9 and 18x10 on his '91 turbo

As stated above backspacing is the distance from the edge of the backside of the wheel to the mounting surface.

The ET or offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface.

If you do some math you'll be able to figure it out. If I get some spare time here at work I'll see what I can do.

Sorry a little slow posting, yes your calculations are correct. As for fitting or not I don't know for sure, they seem a little too much but, I'm no expert on offsets.

I think they will fit. I if you have the smaller springs in the front they should fit.

Problem is. Good luck finding a 17" rim in those sizes for our bolt pattern. They're all 18" and even then theyre the turbo sizes of 8.5" Front 10-11" rear by 18"

I got an offer for them. Now all I have to do is checking if I can afford them right now
I'm just a student and therefore I have to safe some money. Actually in the moment I'm looking for the perfect design and I will buy some either when I find a really good offer or around february/march.

And I have also found a Fikse Dealer in Germany, but they want 3400€ (5000$) for a set of four. Thats far to much for me.
