Default S2 torque tube vs. 944/951 torque tube

PET shows the S2 torque tube and 944/951 torque tube as different part numbers. What is the difference between the two? In spite of whatever difference, are they interchangeable?

I plan to install a 968 NA engine in my 951, and intend to use an S2 flywheel, S2 clutch assembly and fork, and a 944 bellhousing to couple the engine with my 951 torque tube and transmission. I noticed the different part #s and want to make sure there isn't a compatibility problem.

per the 944S2 '89 Service Information Technik that explains modifications...

"The central tube is slotted in the front zone in order to avoid torsional resonance, which is transmitted via the central tube. The slot is covered with adhesive plastic sheet to avoid the entry of dirt."

Thanks, Tom. So, I should be fine dimensionally, but may have resonance relates issues, whatever those may be. Is there a picture, or sketch detailing the slots?

Can someone expand on the topic of torsional resonance?

it was probably vibrating at certain speeds, so they broke up the vibration with a slot in the metal...

I have an S2 engine and gearbox in a 1987 NA 8v shell using its original torque tube and it works fine for me (my car isn't exactly quiet but I don't notice any unusual vibration).
It would be interesting to try an S2 torque tube, so I might put this on the to do list for next year.
best regards,
Peter

944J - That's what it seems. Maybe that explains part of the increased drivetrain noise/vibration reported in some 968 conversions.

Thanks Peter, that's good news. I can deal with a little noise or vibration, afterall it is a track car. I was worried about fitment issues.
