Default HELP! w/ Removing Engine

I currently have the 944 turbo engine on a hoist to remove from the car. I've been referrencing the factory service manual, and am STUCK! it seems as soon as the 4 bolts to the bell housing to the motor, and the two referrence sensors and holder are removed, the engine should slide off of the input shaft. Nothing at this point should be holding the motor from being removed. I attempted that with NO luck. I then took the four bolts off of the torque tube to the bell bell housing, and attempted to slide engine forward. No matter what I do the engine will not slide forward. I've been able to slide it about 1 inch forward

HELP! any insight? I need to finish this tonight.

I take it you have the cross member off and also unbolted the steering?

The cross member w/ rack, starter, slave cylinder hanging, DME/KLR harness, ground strap...you name it. I followed the service manual. how much of struggle is it to remove it? I realize the input shaft is quite long, but i never had this much trouble disconnecting an engine from the transmission...so to say

I remember mine being a little bit of struggle and then it just sort of slide out pretty quickly. Do you have the fans and everything else out? If so, give it a good yank, it really doesn't have anywhere to bang into.

Uh, if you are leaving the bellhousing attached to the torque tube, then you need to remove your clutch fork.

There is a long pin that holds the clutch fork to the bellhousing, which in turn is held to the release bearing of the pressure plate. You have to remove that pin from the bellhousing so the fork comes loose and then you can remove the engine. There is a 13mm IIRC bolt which holds the pin in place, then you screw another 8x1.25 bolt into the end of the pin and pull it out towards you. You may need a slide hammer, etc. Look at clarks-garage at his clutch procedure and you should find it.

You need alot of explosives and a 3" PVC pipe.. I also suggest having a German Shepard.

in the picture it looks like his Torque tube is unbolted from the bellhousing, so it should slide out, make sure the the engine is parallel to the torque tube so there is no bind, mabye you have the engine lifted up to high or too low?

I ended up pulling mine alone and was amazed how perfectly aligned the TT shaft had to be or it wouldn't slide forward. I played with the leveling bar and height on my hoist and it just popped out so easy I felt stupid.

Yeah, I pulled the engine alone. Like you said alignment was key because the way i set the hoist up was causing it to bind. The hoist plus a floor jack helped me ease it out. A good yank and it slid out without a problem.

Thanks Again Guys.

when reinstalling, get an engine leveler, it will make it much easier because you don't want to mess up the clutch disc splines or nick the torque tube where it goes into the pilot bearing.
