Default Two-piece Crossover Variations--Interesting

It seems no one believes me that there definitely are two varieties of the two-piece crossover pipe. Hopefully someone here can expound on the specifics of the two types so the information is clear for future rennlist inquiries.

Some asswipe stole my $1000 digital SLR from a party at my house (senior in college), but I was able to go on Ebay and find pictures of the two variations.

Who would paint this blue, honestly.

You can see that the male/female arrangement on the wastegate short pipe to crossover connection is reversed between variations. I first encountered this when helping a fellow '86 owner change his seal ring; his has the male end on the crossover.

My hypothesis is that one variety is from a certain date and after. I'm assuming the difference between my and my friend's 86 cars deals with the time in which the two-piece retrofit was performed, as they are both earlier '86 cars.

Perhaps the note about interim production up to VIN 95... explains the pipe in the lower picture above? At any rate, it still looks like someone welded up your little pipe, but happy to be enlightened otherwise.

Yeah, mine was definitely welded by the PO, effectively ruining it because it placed undue stress on the other flange. The TSB is a little arcane; I wonder if there is more info somewhere else. I wonder if Ian at 944Online would know?
