Default Something Missing from 86 Turbo Engine

I recently purchased an 86 944 Turbo. My first ever.

I didn't take it to a mechanic because I bought it from one. Everything in the engine compartment looked great, engine starts great, runs great.

But, what is supposed to be in the engine compartment, on the car's right hand side, close to the rear of the engine compartment? I have a female electric plug with 3 prongs there, but nothing to plug it into. I can see the space where something belongs, just past the wheel well, but it's empty. What was it?

Anyway you can post a picture? When you say right hand side are you standing in front of the car ? Or in the drivers seat?

In the drivers seat.

I don't have that thing that's fore of the firewall, nestled aft of the wheel well. (the green line curls around it) What is that?

Yep, you don't have the cruise control servo. The cruise computer is known to go wonky. Some people (including me) pull it from their car to make things cleaner. I don't have it in either car. There would be a cable going from that servo through the firewall and back down inside the car to the gas pedal. The connector you are seeing is power and signal wiring for the servo.

If you are trying to restore I think I have a servo here that I pulled from my 86 turbo... you can have it for cost of shipping. But be aware that that may not fix it as your computer might still be bad.

The cruise servo unit should be easy to find, lots of people remove them to pick up some extra engine room and reduce weight.

Cruise control = one of mankind's greatest inventions. I use it all the time, even at 30 MPH.
