Default fuel pressure regulator -stock bar & part #

Hello fellow Rennlist members.

I have a 1989 944 Turbo.

The car is 100% stock and I'm having trouble getting it to pass smog. My Hydrocarbons are at 208, but should b, I have 2.0 co2, which is major high. I think its my fuel pressure regulator, I have lots of black soot on my bumper and it smells like it's running SUPER rich.

I have two fuel pressure regulator Questions.

1. ) What is the original Bosch part number? mine say's 0 280 160 227
2. ) What is the correct bar pressure of a stock system?

The results of the smog test.
"first is my car, then the max"
-----------------------------------------------------
HC=208 the max is 116 "way over"
CO=.70 the max is .74 OK
NOx =2557 the max is 791 "way over"
-----------------------------------------------------

Thanks for any help.

Engine Stopped - Relay Jumpered - 2.5 bar +/- 0.2 bar (36 psi +/- 3 psi)
Engine Running at Idle - 2 bar +/- 0.2 bar (29 psi +/- 3 psi)

Pulled that from www.clarks-garage.com. I just removed my stock FPR and the # on it is the same. How old is your cat?

Pull the vacuum lines off of your regulator and damper and see if gas comes out.

Hello Jfrahm,

thanks for your help.

Should I do this with the car running? or off?

I checked it with the engine off, its been off since yesterday.

I pulled the vacuum line off the FPR and then stuck a Q tip "minus cotton" inside and I could smell gas fumes, but it was not wet. The same for the damper, a slight gas smell.

-----------------------------------------
some extra info. I seem to be getting about 20mpg on the hwy, but about 800 miles ago the MPG was better in the 27mpg range. Nothing has changed to the car since the mpg drop. And still I get the black soot in the back. One last thing, my car burns a quart of oil ever two/three tanks of gas. I don't know if thats good or bad.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Wayne
