Default Am I running too wide a tire on my fronts?

Hey guys,

I switched my tires over. I used to have the Mille Miglia Cup II replicas, but dropped them and finally got a set of real Cup IIs off of a 95 993. I was running 235s up front on the Mille Miglias but they are wider. Is a 235 too wide for real Cup IIs?

if the wheels are 7" wide, which I think Cup II front's are, then a 235 is a bit wide. 225's are about as wide as people normally go with 7" wheels. That said... if you can get the tire to seat on the wheel, and get no fender rub... go for it.

FWIW, I've seen people put 255's on 7" wheels due to racing regulations before, but these are normally 'purpose-built' tires. Street tires may give some odd wear characteristics. What tire model are they specifically? Most manufacturer's list 'recommended wheel width' charts which you can use to tell the absurdity of what you're trying.

Yoko AVS ES100s are what are on there. No fender rub, just want to know if it is a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks!

What size? Here's yokahama's recommendations: http://www.yokohamatire.com/pdf/avses100.pdf. The next question is... how 'critical' are these recommendations? Will you just have non-optimal handling or irregular wear, or are you prone to a blow out due to the tire becoming unseated? That I can't answer.

My tire supplier said 235/40/17 Toyo RA1s were ok on 7" wheels. Wider rims would be better but the 235s seem to be okon the 7" wheel. I've put them through 5 track days and the wear is ok. Not sure how your street tires will wear.
