Hey guys,
I'm about to receive my Vitesse chips soon. When I get my car running, what will be a safe boost to run? I have stock injectors, 3bar FPR, vitesse chips, tail 38, MBC, stock AFM, stock turbo. TIA!

I would e-mail him to find out what you sould be set up for. On the chips he sent, they will be programed to run a certain level of boost. Running more then that could cause you to run lean at mid/high RPMs because it is getting more air then it should be. How are you doing to measure the boost to? The stock guage isn't accurate at all, so I would get an aftermarket gauge and then set boost by that. Depending on what MBC you have, I would set it all the way low as it can go then go for a drive. Hit it and see what boost it is running, it should be less then 13 psi or so. Pull over, turn it up a notch or whatever, then do the same thing. If you have the kind that routes inside the car, the best way is to be on the highway or somewhere straight and no traffic, hit it in 4th gear and once the boost kicks in full, slowly turn the MBC until you reach the set limit.

I don't know if i'm correct in my observations but it seems to me you can run any amount of boost you want as long as you can get enough fuel in there. Just depends how long you want your engine to last. It seems to me that about 15 - 18psi of boost is around the highest level of boost you can run without compromising the longevity of the engine compared with stock. Go much beyond that and you are probably looking at reducing your engines residual life significantly. If you have an engine fresh out of rebuild then it's a different story.

The problem is that the AFM can only read so much air going though it, plus his chips need to be set for the amount he plans to run. Most people that upgrade to a chip set, run about 15psi range. I heard of some that will push 18psi but you don't get any more HP but you do pick up TQ. The tiny k26/6 turbo can't get that 15 or 18 psi at redline, so it drops off. If you put on a good WG, some have been able to hold 15psi but I still think that is pushing it RIGHT to the limit. You can go about 15psi but you go out of the effiency range causing the air to be super hot.
