Default I think i broke something.... thermal switch?

It's the green dot on the picture. When i pulled the cam tower and cycling valve off, one of the little antenna thingies was broken. The other had a vac hose on it, but led to ???? anyways, i ended up breaking the second antenna, cause im smooth like that.
What does this part do, and where were the lines to/from it supposed to go?

I also have some scoring on the cylinder walls, just deep enough that i can feel the grooves with my finger. This is obviously bad, but how bad? normal wear and tear?

Thanks, Kurt

That is a vacuum thermal switch. It is a vacuum switch that opens when the engine water temp is operational and allows the vapors from the fuel tank to be pulled into the engine. Until you repalce it, just connect the vacuum line going to the switch together.
