Default 968 TRANSAXLE rebuilt with low miles! (For Sale - RV)

Took this out of a '94 968 cab that had 86K miles on it. Its the 6 speed transaxle, both axles, transaxle mount and cross brace, and shifter rod with shifter. No leather boot or 6 speed emblem though.

I have receipts for a complete rebuild with all new bearings, syncros, and acosiated seals less than 6K miles ago. Or about 2 years! This is everything you need for a 944 turbo or S2 conversion! Short of the shift boot!

Asking $2,200 for it all, plus shipping which is almost $200 to the east coast!

OPEN DIFFERENTIAL! SHIFTS VERY SMOOTH!

Just a question, but did the 968 transaxles ever come with oil coolers?

No it did not come with oil coolers! However the turbo RS had a cooler at Le Man's so its possible but you need a pump installed to circulate the fluid. On a side note the 968 box weighs 25lb's more than a 951 AOR box and it has over 3 liters of fluid capacity. Which is a lot compared to the 944 box?

Do you need use a 968 TT and bellhousing with that or is that just frosting on the cake for a 951 swap?

You would not want to try and fit the 968 bellhousing, thus the shorter torque tube is not needed.
You will need a driver circuit for your speedo pickup as the 968 gets the speedo info from an ABS wheel sensor.

I wonder how much it'd cost to fit an LSD to this trans?

Yes if you have a 951 without ABS you have to build the spedometer sending unit and calibrate it. And no you dont want to use the 968 bellhousing, or TT because then you have to build something to hold your reference sensor braket as the 968 uses a different type of sensor and only 1 and that would be a pain. Also the 968 uses a dual mass flywheel which is really really heavy so you dont want that either?

I can 100% confirm the 968 unit will bolt up in 944/951's. You'll need all the parts boost feen includes (the crossmember and axles), and his parts are 100% described. I purchased my LSD 968 unit from him and am very pleased with how the parts arrived

Is this still available and will it bolt into an 86' car with the parts propvided or does it need different axles?

Nope everything you need for the job is right there in the pictures! It all works in a '86 944 as well as any year 944! It is still available!

I don't think there is a connection in that trany. It uses an ABS wheels speed sensor to calculate speed. So.. no connector was needed in the actual transmission of the 968. Those with ABS can probably get a computer geek on here to make something for them. But. Other than that. ....
