Now that is funny stuff there.
I have very fond memories of all of my special cars and my 944-especially my first NA 86-will always be with me and in fact if I could find that exact car I would buy it in a heart beat (yellow with turbo conversion body kit,etc...).
As for sides-he he, not a chance. I like all cars-well-almost-see sig.
It is good to see the 44 crowd still strong as the Internet did not exist when I had mine.

I've owned two 944 Turbos and two 32v 928's. I think if you want a fast car, say over 350whp, I think a 928 and a supercharger is a bit better than a 944 Turbo. If you are looking for something to buy for less money and mod slowly over time, the 951 is a better choice. The 951 boost hit is fun but the linear power of the 928 is easier to drive fast in the twisties. The 951's lack of low end is annoying in town, stoplight to stoplight or stuck in rush hour traffic.

If someone had $12K and wanted either a 928s4 or an $8K 951 plus $4k in mods, this is the comparison I'd make:

951+ stage III: more HP, faster, bigger online community, cheaper/more parts available. More tinkering/tuning required. More fun if you like mods.

928S4: More reliable, better for trips, better in town, nicer online community, more national meets, more features, more distinctive, less common. More fun if you like those meets, and if you like the attention that comes from owning a unique car.

Whatever floats your boat.

Ive driven/owned both. The S4 is very fast down the highway, and doesnt have to worry about heat soak or losing power after a few hard runs. You dont have to wait for boost in a S4, its power is readily available.

But damn, hustling that car through the pylons in an autoX is like getting a pig to do ballet (literally in this case). The 951 feels a lot better.

I would use the S4 to cruise around. But its really too heavy to track (doesnt stop people from trying anyway). I think you can get the 951 to about 2000lbs, can the same be said with the S4 (even with its aluminum doors/fenders)?

There is no "better" car, they are both different. Wasnt the 951 in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the faster 4 banger in the world for a while?

Eric, a couple of months back during an early morning LA run, I passed a C2S and gave him the classic Pcar nod, now I was a few hundred feet in front of him when I noticed he decided to cut loose a few horses, so I did the same.

I gave him a good run and his foot was much lighter than mine (noting renn race bylaws), but it just reminded me of what our cars are capable of and how little appreciation we get from other Pcar owners.

The 951 will **** off many owners for a long time to come.

Very, very interesting.

Just this very morning, after getting off 405 up here near Seattle in my super cool, red 928 S4, I spied a red 944 in my rear view mirror taking the same exit.

The next light is a three laner, and I was wondering if he was going to pull up next to me. Sure enough he did. His car looked sweet, very well taken care of.

I turned and he gave me the p-car nod, and he seemed to be happy as a clam about it, had a kind of goofy grin going.

I gave the nod back and as we pulled away it cracked me up.

The guy seemed to be so happy to see another red headed bastard child Porsche on the road. And so was I.

It made my day. -Ed (former n/a 944 owner and fan)

Rod MIllen setup with a customer pulley. Dialed back to around 460-470 for daily use. Fast car. You on CL? I post there often.
OK, back to the 944 vs 928 debate.

Back on topic and to add one thing pertaining the original post, I have noticed that Porsche owners generally acknowledge other Porsche owners more than other makes I have owned. BMW owners came across as if there car was better than yours even when it was the same exact car and Lexus owners car less for the most part. Corvette owners are very similar to Porsche owners in this regard as well. Porsche owners generally will give a quick honk, nod, thumbs up, or wave. Not set in stone of course as there will always be a few to buck the trend, just something I have noticed over the last 20+ years of owning cars. Take it for what its worth.

You'll rarely get a nod or any kind of acknowledgement up here. Most of the p-car owners have no idea what a 944, 968, or 928 is, as far as I can tell.

And the 911 varieties are a dime a dozen, so if you were waving to all the other p-cars, your arm would fall off before you got to work.

And then there's the whole Boxster crowd who are even more clueless then the 911 crowd.

And just to be fair, every once in a great while, I'll have a 911 or even a Boxster guy give me a wave, but its very rare.

I just think there are a lot of late model Porsche owners who really don't know that much about Porsches at all, and could care less.
