All steel stuff is zinc phosphate not zinc chromate I believe.

Zinc chromate is nasty stuff just as bad as cadmium if you bead blast or sand it.

Plating Exhaust pieces, in my opinion is a waste of time and money. That plating will not hold up under the heat and in a year you will never know you even plated it ..
If you want to protect it, get it Jet Hot coated
Kind regards

First of all what kind of plating is on original fasteners, I was reading on this subject and it seems that zinc plating and cadmium plating look the same, but cadmium plating is aluminium compattible and zinc is not?

Second, how do I zinc plate fuel regulators? Is it safe just to dip them, or the holes must be somehow closed?
I did the Fuel Regulator. You just have to make sure, you plug the ends.
I did the damper as well, see Rt rear of picture.....
This represents about a 1/4 of what I wound up plating ...
The only thing I didn't plate was my jock strap (no need as it doesn't get much use these days)

What did you plug it with?

So its bad in powder form not if you are just touching cadmium protected hardware?

I investigated this hot method and company doing it guarantees corosion protection for 100 years, so I think I will go that route for all steel parts... And yellow zinc for steel/rubber parts and the ones that are allready zinced. (I will protect yellow zinc with additional clear coat)

What is the max temperature that exhaust headers heat to? I was talking to this pocinkovalnica company and they told me that this hot dip method is resistant up to 450C. Forget to ask if Jet option is even more resistant to heat..

This company http://www.pocinkovalnica.si/en/index.asp (english site)

Its cca 120km away from me but I think its worth it

What's the temp rating for the jet hot?

The titanium ceramic coating on my exhaust is rated 2000F according to the shop that did the work.

The first run I did which is pictured I think was rated at like 1500?
They have a new one called Jet Hot Extreme... It's supposed to be a higher ? I think like 1700....
I had a few parts done in that as well, but it looks exactly the same ...
There are probably better coatings out there ( like Swain?)regarding temp retention and such, but they look like a$$ to me... I wanted it to look nice as well as do its job. I thought it was a good compromise ( also you have the cut the heat shields off if you go the other route ) wasn't interested in doing that ..
Best regards

Did they coat the inside of your exhaust? They did with mine and their race cars they build apparently gain about 12-15 hp with the thermal coatings.

Yes they did both inside and out ... I understand that coating (insulating) the exhaust pipes, helps increases the throughput of the gases by keeping the temps inside the pipes higher then it would be, without the coating. I believe its call scavaging (sp?) The other reason I did it, was to decrease the under hood temps, which I was told it does....

Zinc and aluminium are close enough in the reactivity series that either one can be sacrificial depending on the alloy and the electrolyte. When I worked at Hamilton Jet, we used zinc anodes on the aluminium jet units. However I have also seen a freshwater pump with zinc anodes where the aluminium preferentially corroded and the zinc was "protected".

Is there a running list of companies you guys recommend for this coating?
