From what I understand, Cadmium plating is not nearly as shinny as Yellow Zinc chromate... It's usually a darker green... Much more protective though...
Plating Exhaust pieces, in my opinion is a waste of time and money. That plating will not hold up under the heat and in a year you will never know you even plated it ..
If you want to protect it, get it Jet Hot coated
Kind regards

I found this thread abouts zinc plating, so I'll ask here.
First of all what kind of plating is on original fasteners, I was reading on this subject and it seems that zinc plating and cadmium plating look the same, but cadmium plating is aluminium compattible and zinc is not?
Second, how do I zinc plate fuel regulators? Is it safe just to dip them, or the holes must be somehow closed?

This represents about a 1/4 of what I wound up plating ...
The only thing I didn't plate was my jock strap

finishing.com has a great discussion board that covers everything from plating to electropolishing of metals. I formulated my electropolishing / de-buring solution from information there.
Here is a good topic on Cad.

I did the Fuel Regulator. You just have to make sure, you plug the ends.

(no need as it doesn't get much use these days) ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

What is the max temperature that exhaust headers heat to? I was talking to this pocinkovalnica company and they told me that this hot dip method is resistant up to 450C. Forget to ask if Jet option is even more resistant to heat..
This company http://www.pocinkovalnica.si/en/index.asp (english site)
Its cca 120km away from me but I think its worth it

They have a new one called Jet Hot Extreme... It's supposed to be a higher ? I think like 1700....
I had a few parts done in that as well, but it looks exactly the same ...
There are probably better coatings out there ( like Swain?)regarding temp retention and such, but they look like a$$ to me... I wanted it to look nice as well as do its job. I thought it was a good compromise ( also you have the cut the heat shields off if you go the other route ) wasn't interested in doing that ..
Best regards

Did they coat the inside of your exhaust? They did with mine and their race cars they build apparently gain about 12-15 hp with the thermal coatings.

The first run I did which is pictured I think was rated at like 1500?

Oh, okay. I think zinc is almost always a sacrificial anode. You'll get a couple with any dissimilar metals, it is the difference in their potential that determines the severity of it. But again, the zinc should be the thing that corrodes here, the aluminum should be fine (I would verify that if I were you, but I'm pretty sure that is correct).
