If KuHL is not interested, I would be, but would have to be freighted to Atlanta.

Steve,

This evening for the hell of it I looked up 'Bad Luck' in the online dictionary, and there was a picture of you right next to it!

Sorry to hear about all the setbacks, good luck.

Regards,
Russell

So guys I have 2 951 short engines! The good 1 is still all assembled with lower end, balance shafts, and oil pan hasnt been removed. This engine I call good because the cylinders look respectable with no markings to speak of or catch your finger. This short block anyone can grab for $500, the second engine had a spun #2 rod so its F***** I took it mostly apart but the lower girdle, crank, and balance shafts are still in it. Its $50 for anyone that wants a rehone, or sleeved engine project!

PS My 3.0 liter 968 turbo is pretty much done just have the hood and front bumper off at the body shop for the NACA vents larger front openings and paint!

Shawn,
Is there much ridging on the top of the bores of the good short block? Year? Mileage?
That might be cheaper than machine work. Any pics you can PM me?

Can wait to see the 3.0L project

Doesnt appear to be bad ridging but all I did was look and feel with fingers I havent used any special tools! Came out of an '86 turbo with 165K miles if I remember right, I bought in Sac town, you know that red one with LSD and engine trouble well the guy didnt know it but the camshaft sheered off inside the cam tower and he couldnt figure out what was wrong or did he have the money to fix. So I bought it as a parts car because it had that LSD 5R transaxle, 2 sets of rims, and a saratoga top which go for $$$ Anyway the bores arent perfect but they dont have any lines in them nor are they all scuffed up there actually pretty clean!

Steve-- the guy I bought the blue 951 from (brian, mr nasty 951) has a 2.8 sleeved block and piston set, brand new. I think he said he would part with it for $1500 (he paid almost $3000). Sounds like a pretty sweet deal !!

Steve,
Sorry to hear. Doesn't anyone have oversized pistons that work? I have a couple blocks that could used boring or sleeving. There must be something out there for a reasonable price.

LR is going to take over our little Mahle piston orders, they can just handle a better inventory and they're a good business. Anyway you go, whether you buy used ( good one ) or rebuild, anywhere from 1500 to 2200, and that's you doing the labor. Even with a used one, I think I'd still do head gasket - to inspect the bores, and do rod bearings since the engine was out, unless you paper work from a trusted source.

Tom C pistons are available and if you've seen the trauma from our track car pics, you've seen that the coating held up very well. Pistons and machine work will get you into that used engine price but you have the knowledge of what you did

For the record, I vote option 5 - find a good engine/short block and sell the two bad ones to someone wanting to do a large bore project. Don't sell the silver car though. If anything steal the motor out of the black car and put it into the silver.
