Also if you remove the rear glass, you can then cut out the floor and open up the gas tank. Think of the time saved on fillups just having to spray gas into a large gas pool. Or if you need extra boost, throw in a match for an afterburner.

I understand that the engine compartment might get more dirt and that the belts could be in danger but it might be worth it during a pit stop in race conditions. Imagine all the time it takes to get to the engine - that could be saved by simply taking one panel off the car.

By keeping them under the hood, they are handy and are prewarmed so you don't have to wait for your oil to get up to temp again. Also you are already up to temp in case of a surprise emissions check since everyone knows getting up to temp quickly is all the belly pans are for anyway.
