Default KW coilover users (any Americans?)

Hey guys-

Is there anybody on the board in the U.S. using the KW V3 coilovers? If so, can you please tell me where you purchased them? Also, is there a choice of spring rates?

Are there any clearance issues with the rear coilovers and the gear oil lines? Overall, are you happy with the setup?

I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks

Bump

I'd like to hear more about the KW's as well. BTW I also heard they offer the V2's, although they are not shown on the site.

basicly v2 = 1 way v3 = 2way adjustable.

Seems like no-one has them in the US yet. It's a shame as they are very good. I am VERY happy with mine and there is a guy in California who is the one to talk to but I don't have his name sorry. I think I have posted it before though so maybe do a search on KW's.

anders- Thanks, I'll check it out.

333- Thanks for the reply. Are you running deleted torsion bars? Are there any choices in spring rates with the KW?

I noticed that the new AMG Black Series comes with KW coil-overs from the factory. That too me, says a lot.

Travis: I got them the other week from autoanything but am not planning on installing them for another month or two. They were actually shipped direct from Germany. You can, believe it or not, contact KW in germany with questions. Customer support in the US is patchy.

the v3s are designed to be run with a torsion bar and come with a standard spring rate. I have those details somewhere. I read somewhere that you can get custom rates if you order directly from KW.

there are others who have KW race coilovers, which have greater spring rates and thus can readily be used without the torsion bar.

I would doubt that you could get the V2's or V3's available with t-bar delete, however you could get the custom 2-way race like I have and they would cater for running without t-bars. I chose to retain my t/b's for the reason that we have to in our Porsche club, and really unless you are going to be changing out your springs on a regular basis like a racecar then I don't really see the need. Plus there is evidence that it greatly reduces the torsional rigidity of the body back there and you can suffer the consequences. It depends on what your goals are and what you use the car for. If it's a road car that you take to the track you really don't need to get into t/bar delete in my opinion. My focus is for the track yet it is still very compliant on the streets, has 3 way adjustment, and if you do custom order it from Germany they will make it for your car and what you want from it. The first time I went out with them on my car I cut 2.5 secs on a 1 min 24 sec track so that was proof enough for me!

True that. I tried getting in touch with the guy in California (Glen Messinger) and after talking to him on the phone once (seemed to be a good conversation), I couldn't get a hold of him at all after that. Its really quite unforunate that their US support sucks so badly.

That's interesting Anders. Have you experienced any extra 'creaking' from the body?

The rear coilover spring rate on the V3's is 250lb's (ish) so I guess if you used this without your TB's that would be quite soft. All the guys I spoke to who had them had the M030 TB's and I wanted mine to be the same so ended up replacing my TB's to M030's. However before I made the decision to replace my rear TB's I queried KW about fitting higher rated springs to give me the same effect. They said they offered a 'Club Sport' spring package with the V3's but in the end I elected to just swap out my TB's so didn't find out the details. I'm pretty sure there is a chap in the UK who had stiffer springs fitted to his V3's - so I think it is possible to spec something different.

However I can confirm that the standard V3 kit with M030 rear TB's (25mm dia) give superb results. It is a stiff setup but not so stiff to be undrivable on bumpy roads. I've also fitted Racers Edge camber plates up front and again the ride quality is pretty good considering how stiff it is. Turn in is razor sharp.

Yes I think you're referring to Big Dave with the S2. He has had his springs uprated.
I'm still not exactly sure why one would go to the trouble of removing t/b's on anything but a pure track car and even then...?
