Unhappy engine fire ! damn !

so last night i developed a sudden oil leak by the back of the cam cover. on the way home the oil dripped on the exhaust manifold and caught fire. a friend was following behind and he spotted it so we were able to put it out quickly so no real apparent damage, just lots of soot.

problem is, now the motor dies when i give it gas, almost like there's a vacuum leak. it's parked two blocks from my house and i'm trying to get it home. i'm thinking of trying to block most of the vacuum hoses to eliminate any leak possibility. i've already tried bypassing the heater vacuum line but it made no difference.

the fire was right around the crossover merge pipe so it might have damaged something that's above it. i tried bypassing the heater vac.line because i thought it might have melted, can't tell for sure yet. the car starts up and idles fine, it just immediately begins to die as soon as part throttle is given. when given more than 60% throttle it first starts to die, and then revs up, but then starts to die when any engine load is given.

anybody have any ideas what it could be?

vacuum line or lines to your wastegate? Although it seems hard to believe that a leak from these would keep you from getting it home. Sorry to hear about this.

if i give it 30% throttle (or even 60% throttle), the engine still starts to die as soon as i engage the clutch. no way to make it home in this condition as i have to drive up a hill.

hey nize..... do you run "wrapped" crossover/header?? Can't imagine oil fire otherwise unless a massive leak.

Please share as many think oil fires from exhaust wrapping is an urban legend- and sorry again to hear of your misfortune

Brakes don't work very well without vacuum boost.

They're not great, but if you're only going a couple blocks, they should be fine - unless the driver has a bad knee or really weak leg. I've been towed several miles, and the brakes were up to the task of stopping the car AND the pickup that was pulling me.
