Where to Find LSD Transmission for 87 951?
I have seen several places that offer rebuilt LSD transmissions for 944 turbo's. Where is the most reputable place to buy a rebuilt LSD transmission where they replace all the wearable parts?
Also, I had been told that you can only get parts for the 951S transmissions and not the 951 tranys. Is this true?

What places have you found that are offering rebuilt LSD transmissions?
There are very few places I would trust with transmission work. Probably fewer than I would trust selling "rebuilt" engine short/long blocks.
Big key is what was replaced when rebuilt. Was the trans a factory LSD trans, or did some shop swap in an LSD unit out of an old 944 trans - yes, the LSD units are interchangeable, but you dont know the age/mileage/condition of the donor LSD trans - and few shops rebuild the guts of factory LSD units (see note below).
Yes, most of the 951S specific parts have superceded the earlier 944/951 components, but that is limited to the input shaft (very seldom needs replacement) and the friction disc and pressure cups within the LSD unit. All the bearings, synchros and seals (typical rebuilt parts) are the same parts. The big problem with the 951S parts is the LSD. If you have a non-Turbo S LSD and need to rebuild it, you have to use all the 951S specific parts in it, which will cost about $500 just in the discs and pressure cups.

I'm going to be selling my 89 TurboS LSD Tranny that will be rebuilt by Chris Cervelli when he's done building my 968 box. Gives you a few months to get the cash together.

So is Chris still doing 944 gearbox work? I had him do syncros in my Turbo S box years ago as he was the ONLY person I would trust doing that.
I was not aware that he would still do that work. Hmm I need to an LSD and put it in my race car gearbox if I have guy who can do it. Now I just need to find a wad of cash to pay for it all!

Well, he offered to do my rebuild and I instantly took him up on it. Now, I just got a price back of $4500 from Porsche Motorsport for the 3.40 ring and pinion that is I guess extremely rare so I'm gonna pay out the *** for it. Still looking. Have to find it cheaper. So now I just need to find the wad of cash to pay for the rebuild with the parts. Crazy, this tranny could end up costing me7-9 grand. Ridiculous.
