Okay. I finally got the cats gutted and got everything back together.
The car runs exceptionally well.
It only holds 6 psi of boost now.![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I'm going to guess the wastegate is tired.
I have a set of Stage II chips and banjo bolt somewhere, so I'll try that first.
If the boost stay at 6 psi I'm going to assume it's the wastegate. Unless it's possible that the cycling valve is not working. . . But if that's the case I don't think I would even get 6 psi boost.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Get an after market wastegate. Lindsey Racing sells bolt on replacements, and Tial wastegates are a popular choice as well. I just installed a Tial on my car as well as a Lindsey Racing MBC. Everything works exceptionally well! I hope you solve your problem!

Yes, may as well get a dpwg now that you're in there. If you decide to play around and get some chips, it will hold boost longer. Then you could do a 3" exhaust, ebc, new turbo, bigger brakes, uprated suspension, bigger i/c....arghh stop now for god's sake while you still have a chance to get out alive!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking about this and I'm going to shim the stock wastegate and see if the boost increases. If it does then I will replace the wastegate with a known good used stock unit.
I know the aftermarket wastegates are better, but I just don't need it. Plus $$$.
I have a set of Stage II chips, a K&N airfilter and a Lindsey boost enhancer sitting on the shelf that I plan on using. But not until I know the stock setup is 100% AND the car passes emissions.
That's about as far as I want to go performance wise unless I pick up some hand me downs from you guys![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks guys!

Hmmm... if it has stock chips, the DME/KLR should cut power before letting the boost build up that high. Might want to check the KLR line running from the intake to the KLR box -- maybe it is bleeding off boost giving a false low reading? Where did you tap in to feed the boost gauge? What does the factory guage say when the aftermarket says 20?

Tom,
I already fixed the overboost problem. It was caused by the baby catalytic converter being clogged.
Now I only have 6 lbs of boost.
Of course, I'll probably get around to fixing this in about three months![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

That's strange;
usually a clogged cat causes LOW BOOST
freeing it up should allow full boost
I also think it's a good idea to see if the stock gauge matches closely your aftermarket one (keeping in mind that with the stock gauge boost is anything over the atmospheric "1") (well, you probably know that)

The converter wasn't clogged.
As stated earlier in this thread it was the small converter at the end of the pipe attached to the wastegate.
I don't know why everyone is asking what and where the gauge is, as that is said earlier in this thread too. . .
The car had 20+ psi of boost. That is now fixed.
Now it has only 6 psi of boost.
Thanks everyone.

The saga continues.
The last time we tuned in the car was only making 6 psi of boost. Today I finally got around to shimming the wastegate. I used two shims. (Actually I used washers.)
It now boosts to 12 psi.
I think I'm going to leave it just like that.
Thanks again everyone for all of the help! ! !
