My 2.7 is sitting dead with a large chunck of #1 cylinder blown to pieces. The motor is completely stock and it happened at low rpms. It sounds like this is a more common problem than I originally thought.

John, That sucks that you're having so many problems with this motor...and losing out on so much track time. Hopefully the new one will be better, let me know if you need a hand.

be aware the rod to stroke is not that flash in these engines
What does "be aware the rod to stroke is not that flash in these engines" mean?
The rest of it I can kind of make out but that part leaves me stumped. I have no idea what flash means in that context.

I've seen it twice and both times the cracks were adjacent to the passenger side of the block. I chalked both of them to an overboost/lean condition. The head gasket is not always the first to blow.

No boost line into a stock wastegate will give you 'unlimited' boost. Run the wastegate line directly to the intercooler pipe and you will see .2 to .4 bar of boost.

As far as the reason for the cracks - detonation. If you have sudden and massive detonation (like running 20 lbs of boost with out significant management mods) the cylinder can crack before the head lets go. I have tested this theory myself!

Chris, the wastgate is a duel port. I'm pretty certain my engine management is okay, as I had everything data logged and it was spot on.

I do need to talk to you about building a sleeved short block for me. What is the best way to contact you?

OK, Dual port is different.
What are you using for engine management that will work OK up to 20 psi?
You can get me at 315-636-8716 or chris@944enhancement.com

Must be an Aussie expression... "not that flash" could generally be used in place of "not the best".

ha thanks M8 and if it was good I'd say "as flash as a rat with a gold tooth"
more fun culture than your local porsche car club??
As your running management/logging can you confirm the status of the knock sensors are you data logging the background noise??
Is there skuffy skirts on the slugs ? I mean pistons
bore skuffs ?
sounds like a ping , I mean knock
